Removing muzzle brake

How can I minimize the chance of damaging the muzzle brake finish while removing it and installin it with a wrench?
Is it ok to clean and protect muzzle threads and barel Threads with oil?

If your brake hasn't been Loctited in place and you can remove it the threads are best protected with something like Never Seize.
 
What happens if it's loctited? Why would it be installed
So tight ? :s is it that necessary for anything threaded on the end of the barrel
To be super tight
 
I had one the previous owner loctited the brake on. I could not remove cold. I heated it with a propane torch then removed. cleanup the threads reassembled with never sieze. no more problems.

^^^(what chappy said) heating works very well to remove loctite
 
Removing and installing Muzzle Devices

What tools are best for removing and installing a muzzle break and how do you minimize cosmetic damage? Should one wrench be on the barrel and the other on the muzzle break to remove?
How tight should it be installed?
Is locktite necessary?

What kind of muzzle brake? I generally use an AR wrench or but a strong rod ( ei: screwdriver shaft) through the port on the muzzle can work awesome too. 20 ft pounds is common. If using a crush washer line up until snug depending on muzzle brake design. I generally don't use locktite but BLUE if you do. YouTube has tons of vids as well. ( Miculek etc)
 
Like your other thread about the same thing. Use a properly fitted wrench. Add some tape on the jaws of the wrench if you want to protect it. Now that kinda stupid to use 2 different wrenches. Do you use a tire iron to remove your lug nuts and another to install?

Locktite isn't needed if you use a crush washer to index.

Honestly do you need to start a second thread for a topic that pretty much the same minus you added another question?
 
It's spelled brake not break...

and some brake manufactures suggest permanent Loctite.

Indexed brakes are often Loctited. If it is a fairly open brake they don't need to be removed for cleaning the barrel...

It only makes sense a tool be made so the brake does not get marked up when you remove it.

What brake and what rifle do you have?

Savage scout 11. Only reason I want it off is to clean and oil the threads on the barrel, I THINK I spotted little Rust marks where the brake threads on...I don't know the type or make

Ya know - More damage is done by rookies diddling around with their firearms, than any other reason. You have not even shot the rifle yet!. If you are pre-occupied about what you perceive as rust, just dip the whole end of the barrel in a jar of motor oil. If you ever decide to shoot it, make sure the bore is swiped clean before firing.
