I was a pretty big gun nut in 2012-2015 but was going through some moves and was easier to liquidated my firearms and ammo, and since I didn't have any I let my PAL expire in 2017, I called and they said since I had my pal number I should be able to just renew, I filled out the forms and sent them in and will update after I find out for myself.
But has anyone successfully renewed a very expired pal and rpal, let me know!
And if no one has, ill come back and let you guys know.

First I have heard of this, I was under the impression in 2019 that you would have to re write the CFAC test.

Perhaps that has changed as...

The RCMP do state that you can only do this by mail in. No Online, as per website.

You cannot renew your firearms licence online if any of the following conditions apply:

  • your licence has expired or is otherwise no longer valid
Good luck, & welcome back.

Thanks for the welcome back

I assumed I was going to have to redo it aswell and was suggested to call by the guy that did my pal/rpal tests all those years ago.
The only thing I couldn't provide was proof of passing the courses as that's long lost, but having my old pal on hand is proof enough to me, maybe they agree.

Everything's so expensive now haha

This is what I saw when I was looking into it and discussed with fred0000 by that wording. All the criteria is met. So I figured worth a shot ?
I too was curious if anyone had done it successfully.

Yes, prices have gone up ever since the bans began, perhaps after the next election all that "inventory" held by distributors & retailers will be blown out for the same prices they were purchased for back in 2019/2020

We can dream. But I really don’t see that happening. Undercutting the market for what ? Rents gone up everything’s gone up. Things will be sold at current market price unfortunately.

Then they will go out of business, I'm certainly not going to pay 3X the price for a Omni Hybrid AR15 that cost $500 in 2019/2020.

Good luck to them.

Like I said. Current market price. Everyone going to be selling them for what it is. Look at mosins. My first one was 100 bucks. Find me one that price now ?

Just the way life works man.
They’d go out of business giving “bro deals”) overhead didn’t stay the same as when purchased.
And if you don’t buy such and such item. The next guy will. They don’t care
Buisness is Buisness unfortunately

👍I won't be participating in that rip off, I'll spend my money on something that's up to date & not 5-6 yrs old. JM.02

here is the holes in your theory.

1. If these distributors and retailers are hoarding said items, they are doing so with the uncertainty of IF and WHEN they will be able to sell them. So they have risked a LOT of money to be tied up indefinitely.

2. It is anything BUT certain that the AR15 platform, or any of the banned guns for that matter, will be allowed back into the Canadian market.

3. if these platforms suddenly become legal again, do you really think that these distributors and retailers are going to just try to break even on them when selling them back to the market? When everything else in Canadian society has doubled or more in price?

4. With all that supposed "inventory" becomes available again, the manufacturers are going to be less incentivised to send new supply here as there market will be saturated.

Honestly it will never get to 4, because there are no distributors or retailers that are sitting on that kind of stock and tying up that kind of free cash flow. Give your head a shake. Now, there may be a few fringe cases that are doing EXACTLY what you said, but that is a rather large gamble that most savvy investors won't risk. But again, playing your delusional game, if they are suddenly legal again, they are going to be selling this hoarded inventory for a pretty big premium as everyone is going to be rushing out to get their hands on them.

Quit being delusional.

Google RCMP form 5592e.

Check off you have an expired licence and write in your number. In question 20(a) write “on file” for proof. If you have a restricted write “on file” in question 20(b).
