Request for Information about 308

If you want speed, get a Lee Enfield. A hot loaded .303 180gr is about just as fast as a .308. Every modern action I've had my hands on pales in comparison to the smoothness and speed of a Lee Enfield bolt.

Due to rear locking lugs, the bolt stroke is shorter than a .308.
Angled locking lugs means the bolt is moving rearwards by the time you've opened the bolt
Kock on close action makes the bolt snappier to unlock.
Heavily tapered cartridge aids in quick feeding.

308 is as boring as vanilla ice cream. It will fit pretty much every hunting situation one can think of, there are plenty of bullet options, and when the zombies show up..308 will be plentiful.

Apologize for some of the cynical responses. Not everyone is on the same level, some folks just have to be certain way I suppose when they feel an inquiry is beneath them or too generic for their liking. It would be easier if some people would just read and move on.

I think .308 is a fantastic calibre. I have a safe full of rifles small and large, and after 50 years of hunting...I just recently picked one up. My first one.

Like some have already replied, there are many to choose from, prices from low to high. My recent 308 acquisition is a Howa 1500 in an HS Precision stock and it has been doing very well in it's first 75 rounds. Tends to shoot 150-165 grain well for me at the moment. If you are hand loading would be good to know that the Howa freebore is long compared to other manufacturers but even though I can't load close to the lands I am still getting great accuracy. Even with some factory ammo. The best factory ammo this rifle is shooting so far is the affordable Barnes Harvest.

Not sure what your budget is like but my cousins are shooting Sako and Tikka 308's and they are very accurate.

Hope you find a good one. Should not be a hard thing to do there's lots out there.

But, enough of my tinfoil hat conspiracy ..good thing my ALCOA Tinfoil Hat material has been slow of late in the EE that I have enough tinfoil to make my own tinfoil hat.
