.....What a bunch of morons!!!...I didn't even know there are such thing as call "non-hunting rifles"...what...is there a new classification call non-hunting rifle now, or those numnutz made it up?....unreal!.

Dear Mr. Ostapchuk,

In past years I have made the travel to see the fantastic Toronto Sportsman Show. However, it has been brought to my attention that the show is now turning down companies that would like to have an exhibit simply because their non-restricted rifles do not look like "typical" hunting rifles. I understand that these decisions are up to the staff’s discretion, but I have never heard of something so "Narrow Minded". In fact, if this is a true sportsman show, you should be welcoming both restricted and restricted rifles AND handguns, as both of those are used by Canadian sportsman and athletes.

If your Sportsman Show is designed for "hunting related only", I may understand where you are coming from. But seems how I see airsoft rifles, paintball guns and hot tubs at your past shows, you would have to explain in great detail the definition of "hunting related".

I honestly hope that you have been truthful with your patrons, and explain to them prior to walking through the door that you do not and will not have rifles that, do not have the distinctive look of a typical hunting rifle. I know that I will be passing this information on to my colleagues' and fellow sport shooters throughout the country.

Furthermore, if you truly believe that only traditional looking firearms should be permitted at your venue, I would expect for you to inform your vendors to remove all rifles and accessories that do not fall in this category. I.e. Synthetic stocks, red dot scopes, long range optics, thumbhole stocks, holsters, etc. For that matter, paintball and airsoft vendors should not be permitted to keep the venue "genuine".

Have we really come to the day where even fellow firearm enthusiasts discriminate other firearms solely on appearance? It's incidents like this, not from the Conservatives' opposition (NDP, Liberal, Green Party), that truly make it hard to believe the gun laws will actually be reversed in this Country.

Hope to be back at your show one day, but not until ALL non-restricted firearms are welcome at the venue (at a minimum)

Your once faithful patron,

I emailed them thursday afternoon threatening to boy-cott the show, tell other vendors precisely why I won't be showing up and actively spread the message via every medium I possibly could like FB, text, bbm etc! I am glad they listened!!

This is the e-mail I sent. Maybe I'm quite late, but I still like to have my kick at the corpse.

To whom it may concern:

I find it despicable that you as supposed gun owners, won't allow certain styles of firearms in your show (s). To what end? I find that people like you are the reason we have such restrictive firearms laws in the first place. With "friends" like you, who needs enemies! Any show you ever have to do with will be boycotted by me, and every single other firearms owner I can spread the word to. You are a disgrace, especially now that we have won a small victory with C-19.

To put it bluntly, as if I haven't already been blunt enough, you are what is wrong with the firearms community. You probably even voted liberal. Nothing but wolves in sheep's clothing you are.

Good day.

Why is everybody still sending angry emails after they have already realised the error of their ways and reversed the decision.
Late to the party I guess but still doesn't mean they can't react to their very recent silly restriction...as people find out they will still feel raw and will wanna drive their nail in the coffin.

It seems to me that in previous years there was a both promoting cowboy action shooting. In fact they nearly convinced me to take up the sport. I even bought a Colt SAA clone!

Anyway they were exhibiting various SA handguns which are (sadly and needlessly) restricted.

So I would think they should allow you to exhibit restricted firearms.

Shouldn't it be about what the attendees want to see anyway? I know many hunters are also shooting enthusiasts - at least I am.

BTW I was working a booth at the show last year, and R Nichols/FN Sports had a booth that was packed full of black rifles, so they certainly had no problem with restricted firearms last year. Not sure why they are acting differently all of a sudden.

North American Hunter magazine had an article on the AR15 as "the modern hunting rifle".
Somebody should email them a copy. The only way we move forward is if we get the entire industry and ALL shooters on the same page. A gun is a gun.

Okay, I found it online:

ARs Have A Place In Hunting Camp
They're modern sporting rifles ... not military machine guns.

Sooner or later it will happen to you. One of these seasons you’ll be sharing camp with a fellow NAHC member who’ll carry an AR-style rifle into the field on opening day. What will your reaction be?

North American Hunter Editor Gordy Krahn undertook that experiment a few seasons ago. Without telling any of the other camp regulars, he showed up at his lifelong northern Minnesota stomping grounds to hunt deer with a Remington Model R-25 chambered for .308 Win. and topped-off with a red-dot scope. As you might predict, he faced an array of responses.

Youngsters thought it was “way cool!” Some oldsters asked why he brought a “machine gun” to hunt deer. Everyone was interested, wanted to learn more and definitely wanted to shoot it, but you might not guess some of the questions he heard:

“How far does it shoot?” Well, it’s the same .308 Win. as in bolt guns, pump guns, lever guns and other semiautos, so it’s effective to the same ranges as all of them.

“Where’s the switch to make it full auto?” Civilian sporting rifles built on the AR platform are semiautomatic-only firearms, just like your beloved Benelli Super Black Eagle shotgun or Remington Woodsmaster .30-06.

“Aren’t those ‘assault rifles'? That’s what ‘AR’ stands for you know.” No, “AR” is not an abbreviation for “assault rifle.” It stands for “Armalite Rifle,” which was the military predecessor to what’s more properly called today the “modern sporting rifle.”

“Isn’t that thing a machine gun?” Certainly not. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934 and remain so today. The modern sporting rifle is a semiautomatic, meaning that it fires once each time you pull the trigger—just like the semiautos you probably already own.

“Those only come in .223 Rem. You gonna shoot deer with a .223 Rem.?” Manufacturers have geared up in a big way to produce AR-platform rifles in superb traditional big game hunting calibers such as the .308 Win., 7mm-08 Rem. and others. On top of that, they’ve created new hunting cartridges best suited to these rifles such as the .30 Rem. AR and the .450 Bushmaster.

“Can it hit anything?” The accuracy and reliability of today’s topnotch semiautomatic AR-type guns rank with the best of any other action. The Colt AR-15 and the M1A—both often mislabeled “assault weapons”—are the rifles most often used in marksmanship competitions in the United States.

Finally, “Don’t you know those aren’t meant for hunters ... just for war?” Fact is, more of these types of guns have been purchased during the past few years for legitimate sporting use than most other types of rifles and shotguns combined!

This last one really gets under my skin because it sometimes comes from older vets who brought home their Mauser-style bolt actions, “sporterized” them and turned them into the treasured hunting rifles of generations past. Why should the vets coming home from the wars they are fighting today not be allowed to hunt with rifles with which they’re familiar and most comfortable?

It’s almost guaranteed you’ll see an AR-style rifle in camp soon if you haven't already. I might even be the guy hunting with it!

Ever thought of hanging a fishing line off the end of a Type 88 and have Bob Izumi stand by for photos?

This Fudd-like attitude is what drove so many away from OFAH years ago. Thank God they came back to thier senses and support firearms issues again!

Being sportsmen, I suppose they never heard of any shooting sports?

You're kidding, right?

As a matter of fact I'm not kidding. Why poke the bee hive? We gun folk are quietly making progress. Why go into a lefty dominated market, all Nasty Black Guns a Blazing. You honestly don't think some Liberal fisherman or hiker women's rights enthusiast isn't going to see these weapons and get their panties in a not?

Maybe it's just me. I like to be subtle. Maybe your a " In Your Face Anti's" kind of person. I get it. Personally I would rather talk quietly and own a black gun.

I mean no offense those of you who are banding together to help TI flaunt there wears. Good on you. I simple and perhaps selfishly, do not agree.

I was recently at a (fudd oriented/surplus type) show in southern Ontario. I saw on display, prohib, restricted and non restricted firearms, and live ammo too.

What are the issues with? Insurance? CFO? Municipality?

You got can do that now. What the rest of us want tis to be able to hunt with our AR's and not have every dipsh!t in the world call the RCMP everytime they see a "blackgun". It's firearm discrimination/Racism, and I won't stand for it.

If all you want to do is own a black gun, no one is stopping you. Yet... By the time they take them, it will be too late to defend it.

Be loud, but be considerate, and you will make progress on our non-sense firearm laws.
