Hey guy....
Got a dumb dumb question.......
What makes the difference between restricted and non-restricted AR type rifles???
I'm looking for a gun to shoot semi in .223 but don't want the hassle of getting a restricted firearm..
Just looking for fun at 100 yards.
Thanks

One is a useless paperweight, and one can be enjoyed everywhere you see fit ( i.e Tavor, ACR , Vz858 ) without asking the Gestapo for permission

Ar15 is restricted by name, the others aren't. Don't try and make sense of it.

Anyone know what DILLI did? He doesn't suit pink. Lol

The AR-15 and all variants are named restricted unless otherwise prohibited. No exceptions. Others that were examined by the RCMP FRT lab after the original "lists" were made had to be classified according to slightly less moronic criteria than an emotional and uneducated soccer mom could think of. AR = restricted cause some dumb ##### is scared of it. All others = non-restricted because classifying guns based on looks is disingenuous and childish. All part of our circus of laws. Don't miss the hoop or you go to the Gulag.

There are no non-restricted AR15s, they're all restricted by name. There are a number of other black rifles that are non-restricted by virtue of having sufficient barrel length (over 18.5") and by either being sufficiently obscure as to have escaped the notice of the writers of C68, or by having been developed and released after the law was passed.

If you're looking for something on the cheaper end, Vz58s, Kel-Tec SU-16s and Type 97s are available in .223 at ~$900-1100, on the pricier end there's the Robinson Armament XCR, IWI Tavor, FAMAE SG540, and the Swiss Arms Classic rifles ranging from $2500-4000.

That's not my feelings as you can enjoy it many ways and anywhere, well at least south of the boarder. The other wannabe black guns are prohibitively priced as a true good hunting rifle is considerably less expensive. IF the AR was reclassified, very few would pick up one of the others.

It appears that the location of the charging handle is the only difference. Having it on the side prevents us from going off our nut outside of an approved range.

If you are just looking to have fun out to 100 yards I would consider a pistol caliber carbine. I have a Beretta but there are quite a few out there to choose from. With a simple red dot soda cans lay down pretty easily at 100. 9mm is much cheaper than 223 which doesn't mean you will save any money, just shoot a lot more.
