Bumping this old thread up with a new question, skip to page 4

Hi everyone,

I never really got the attraction to bullpups until I saw one in person and suddenly realized the appeal of packing that much gun into a small package. I picked up a FTU T97 shortly thereafter but ended up selling it pretty quick because it didn't like any of my LAR or Beowulf mags, and 5 round mags are against my religion. But I was determined to try the bullpup thing again.

I'd been watching the EE for used Tavor packages but have to admit I really liked the sounds of some of the tweaks to the design that were incorporated into the X95. Well, I saw a deal on a like new 9mm which I just couldn't resist and it is now on its way to my grubby hands. For what it's worth, the 9mm option was the clincher for me as I'm more of a pistol guy and part Scottish to boot, so bring on the cheap NR plinking!

Anyway, I'm willing to give the cutlass a try, but I am expecting I will want to pick up the pistol grip eventually. What are folks' experience transitioning from one to the other?

I see a lot of fuss over the butt pad too, what are the complaints about the OEM pad? Other than reducing LOP, what does the thin one accomplish? I have orangutan long arms, though I do like a short LOP with some rifles. What do you use and why?

And then there's the port cover. What on earth is that and why is it important?

How about the trigger upgrade? I'm guessing if you are trying to put two bullets in the same hole at 400 yards or using this for coyotes I could understand, but if I'm using the 9mm for NR plinking (like short range beer cans on the fence) is a trigger upgrade worth it?

What other accessories out there would you recommend and why? (Bonus points if you can name a site sponsor who carries them too).

Thanks for looking everyone and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Ive had all 3 X95 buttpads, and I like the thin one better. Seems to shoulder perfectly. I also prefer the pistol grip.

The GHW port cover is a must to keep the blow back away from the face.

The Tav-D and Geissele Lightning Bow are a great upgrade if you want a more enjoyable range day, and faster double taps. But inst necessary.

How about muzzle devices? Something that directs gas forward vs those aggressive muzzle brakes that will destroy your face (Being so close to the barrel).

A2 is fine. But you know. Something to spend money on.

Ill wait a while before changing trigger kits. I remember the timley (sp?) kits causing some issues.

The thin butt plate is a must if you are using this for gunning and running. The original rubber butt plate is concave and sticky. It tends to stay in position , not ideal for coming from low/high ready to firing position.

The trigger is like a glock trigger in the pistol world. There are people who can make Glock sing, but there are those who must shoot a smooth double/single action hammer gun. I am not shooting .16 split with that trigger, but I can't shoot that with a stock AR trigger either. If you want to shoot .16 split, you will need a giessele.

The pistol grip is good if you need to use trigger lock or you worry about something get into your trigger space, but militaries have no issues with AUG for many years. Some people also like to have the trigger guard for the finger to press against, but I don't see that as very important with the X95 because the back strap space is not high enough to get a high tang grip like what one can do with an AR.

I haven't seen any "blow back" in X95 and the later rail version TAVOR so I don't think it is any issue.

The only "accessory" that is really needed is the butt plate, other things are pretty secondary and preference driven.

The X95 is pretty much an out of the box and ready to go gun.

Taking mine out today. Mine came with the thin buttpad and the aftermarket gas port cover (Good upgrades).

Besides that I already have a sling. The X95 works amazing with a single point. I'll try to post range results.

Need some photos ....

- Geissele Lightning Bow and Slim Buttpad the two best upgrades IMO

Hey, where did you guys find the grip panels? I've got Nosferatu fingers and thicker grips are typically something I put on all my guns if I can.

Worked great!! The left side was ammo testing. Worked fine with 55gr. Light recoil. Smooth trigger. I wouldnt worry about a trigger kit personally.

I've done the trigger added the Ferfrans brake and blast shield. Shoots great and is pretty quick. I'd like to switch the butt plate out and give the thin one a try. One of these days.
