Revamp Saskatchewan's Big Game draw

I'd be OK with a "que" system combined with a "lottery" system. I'd just like the random number to be a little higher, like 30-50% instead of the proposed 10-15%.

Lets say there were ### tags for a given area. Have 50% of the winners come from the Super A pool who have been in it the longest. Have another 25% of the winners be random from the remaining Super A, 15% of winners from A pool, and 10% from B pool. If you're in C pool then you got your hunt last year and you're on a "cool down" year, at least for that particular draw.

I like the idea of priority points, mostly because I haven't had an antelope tag since the 90s. However, if they are going to continue to charge just to apply, then there should be at least a tiny glimmer of hope.

I'm glad they're getting at it, way overdue. Lots of models out there to copy so I hope they can get it right. I begrudged the fact that I pay every year and sit in super A in perpetuity. At least my few bucks should buy me a point.
A few random drawn tags will keep us interested when point creep makes a zone an impossible draw for many of us with some grey in our beards. After all I fully expect to be drawn for antelope with what, less than 2% pulled?
Tell me you wont be just a bit disapointed Dogleg.

I was hoping they would make a change to the number of tags an individual could "win" in a season. My 17 year old son got drawn for everything (except antelope), three years ago. I've never heard of anyone doing that but lots of people like scott_r, get 2 tags and would likely be happy with one. Perhaps they should change it so that people who get more than one tag have an option to spread it out over the next year?

Are you asking if I would be disappointed if one of the "faint hope" guys got drawn and I didn't? Sure; but not as disappointed as dealing with a system that puts everyone on their second year of applying on an even footing with me when I've been waiting for more than 20. Not as disappointed as when anyone gets a tag before me when I have antelope on my own land.

I'm extremely happy I got drawn for moose and elk but I cant eat all the meat nor do I have enough vacation time to really enjoy hunting both species. I have chosen to dedicate all my time for a bull elk this fall and am not overly concerned about filling my moose tag even though it took me 12 years to get. I will still buy my tag and if I come across a huge bull I will pull the trigger but I'm not gonna have near the same amount of time to pursue a big one.
Given the option I would love to postpone my moose and do it in a few years but that's the way this outdated draw system works here its either all or nothing.

Cheers!!

Why would you expect to be able to get drawn for moose for this fall and not use it until next fall? That would cost somebody else to lose an opportunity next fall.

No. My suggestion, for a case like Scott_r, was that you would be allowed to postpone using your extra tag until next year. That would allow someone else to have that tag for this year. Not a perfect solution, but perhaps better than getting 5 tags in one year like my son did in 2014 .

So we would have everyone putting in all species every year then cherry picking which tag they use and which tag they would hold until next year.

Then we would need a second draw when all successful applicants inform the government which tags they will be preserving until following years.

Why would he put in for 5 tags if he didn't have time or use for all of the meat?

Because the chances of getting drawn for just one animal are rare.....two are extremely rare and all 5 is unheard of.. Ive been putting in for moose and elk for almost 14 years. Why not post something constructive ????

Exactly. So if you do end up with more than one tag getting drawn, you have to make decisions based on your time and priorities as to which animal you would like to hunt.

Actually we did have time to hunt and use for all the meat. 5 animals were taken and all the meat was used by my family. That wasn't the point I was trying to make. However, now my son has no chance at getting a tag for a at least 3 years and the hunts tend to be a bit rushed when you have that many tags.

there is always the option of 99 ing a draw selection.this i chose last year as both wifey and i were
super A for both moose and elk.not a chance in hell did we need 4 tags.

Do you think we should get drawn every year. The wait would be the same for each species whether you had 5 tags in one year or 1 tag for each species in consecutive years.
