Review - Vortex Razor HD gen II 4.5-27x56

I have no issues with the open reticle. In fact I like it a lot.

Pompous S&B and NF users will always think Vortex is second rate, even when proven wrong. It's something you'll need to live with when buying a Razor.

At the Alberta Poker Rally under very dark conditions and HEAVY rain, I was seeing the target easily and splashes at 1200M. Nobody in our group (shooting ATACR's, NXS's and S&B) could. +1 Razor. That was a true test of optics in downright ugly conditions.

As mentioned, the fad of the Razor Gen II is getting pretty old these days yet top shooters continue to use them. This scope has now been out for years. Sure it's not S&B type old, but it's not the newest thing to hit the block.

Finished reading the review. I think it was well done and fairly represents the Razor 2.

I believe mine does have the max elevation optic degrade at max elevation, but realistically this is not a problem for 99.9% of shooters. You simply will never get to this elevation requirement. It might have been wise if this is a problem that Vortex say it'll do 110 or 115 MOA instead of 120 (or whatever it is).

Otherwise, 100% happy with the product.

Glad to hear Vortex has improved their QC on these very expensive scopes. I too review based on what I would want as a shooter. I think you have met me enough to know "sugar coating" is not my style.

Shibby, I am sure Vortex will fix any issues you have.

Most end users will not need the full elevation travel this or any high travel scope offers... but it is always nice to know the products works within the entire range you have paid for

Doesnt bother me one bit and don't plan on having it rectified. I have no need to with normal gun set-up.

At one point marketing sometimes surpasses user requirements. Elevations in these large 34+mm tubes does just that. They fluff numbers 99.9% of people won't need or use. They'll sell you on needing it though.

I firmly believe I got what I paid for. No complaints.

I'd be far more upset with tunneling on a S&B. Somehow accepted by the faithful because "that's just the way it is.."

Interesting that the tunneling on the S+B doesn't attract more negative commentary - mine (like everyone else's) is really a 7-25x56 !

Like I said earlier, what I want is S+B glass, Vortex turrets, TT Zero Stop, NXS weight and Viper PST pricing but until such an optical unicorn appears I think we all make certain compromises......

When you find that optical unicorn please let me know, I will go all in on that one!

I kind of like the March zero stop in that you can set it to be exactly zero or go below zero by whatever you want without disturbing the zero. Useful if you want to shoot a secondary load (varmint/hunting load) without changing your match zero. Good ballistics calculators let you have an offset for different loads. The other time the zero stop is annoying is for modified prone since it doesn't let you bring the windage (elevation dial when the rifle is canted 90 deg. becomes windage) back to the center of the crosshair, so you're always having to hold off.

I can adjust the zero stop of my ATACR quite easily to dead stop below zero if I want.

And if we could add the 60 MOA in one revolution with the 1/4 lever of the NF Beast to the mix on the unicorn scope, that would be great, I'd likely never need to pass the zero on it then and not have to spend over 5k for the option with PST pricing and all lol.

I think the reason not many complain about the tunnelling on the 5-25 PMII is because very few every use it at less than 10x.

Excellent review!! Nice to see someone who isn't in the market of selling scopes to do an honest review. I dont think Ive seen a better written review online, well done Tomochan.

Cheers!!

I really like the Gen II Razor but I just could not justify the weight of it for my LR hunting rig. Therefore I went and ordered the Razor AMG a couple months ago and I'm just waiting for one to show up. I'm hoping it's the best of everything I was looking for.

The vortex gen 2 is on my short list of what new scope I'm going to to put on my new build. Something is holding me back and I can't put my finger on it. I have a good budget to spend on my glass and just can't decide which way I want to go. I already own a s&b pm2, premier heritage, bushnell xrs, and a few nf. I want to try something different and so far it's between this scope and the kahles k624i. I don't think there's a wrong choice but never have handled the kahles leaves me dragging my feet on dropping the coin on it.

I've looked through the Kahles but I've never had access to one long enough to write a review. They are (obviously) very well regarded and perhaps before I bought the Razor Gen II I would have assumed them to be the better scope but all assumptions are off the table now.

How much does this bright shiny thing cost??

In your review you give a Canadian MRSP 0f Can$4,499. The Vortexcanada link in the review doesn't work for me. The one dealer Ican find the scope listed, a place in the Okanagan qotes a price of $3,449.99. They list it as back ordered, which they have stated since midwinter. So what is the current price?

Thanks!

Wolverine now appears to be out of stock now, but SFRC another site sponsor has them for $3449.00 with free shipping.

Here is the link again (direct from Vortex's webpage) : https://www.vortexcanada.net/produc...flescope-with-ebr-2c-reticle-10-mrad-turrets/

I usually give MAP (or MSRP) rather than street price because the latter often varies so much but the $3,449 is one I've seen BUT, as you point out, they don't have any.
