I bought one in '05. I really liked it. It functioned well, although you had to be careful not to "short stroke" it. I put a Hogue 12" LOP overmolded stock set on it, then later had it painted with Krylon's OD green paint. I sold it to buy a strider hatchet. I'd buy another without hesitiation.
All jokes aside I had a chance to fire the Norc clone with the 14'' barrel. The one I fired was stockk but had the ATI vertical forearm pump. Controlling the short barrel shotgun was great and it was nice and light. Action was smooth and the bead sign was good for > 25 yards. If shotgun home defense is your thing a short barrel is great + with our easy barrel length restrictions we can make our neighbors to the south jealous.
They are great as all Rem 870 parts and accessories will work on them. IMO the gun alone is worth it as the cost of 14'' barrels from Remington or Dlask are well above 300 Canadian.
I bought the Remington 870 18'' because I don't like buying guns from China, ala Norinco. After shooting it with the 18 I wanted to get a 14" or less but sadly that was scrapped. My next shotgun is either going to be a really short shotgun (as in 14'' and under) or a semi-auto. That being said, go buy this gun, throw a +1 mag ext on it, get a side saddle or a new stock or whatever floats your boat and have fun shooting it.
I agree 100%. I have, in front of me, a 14" Norc, an 870 Express and an 870 wingmaster ( it's on the EE BTW, shameless plug )
Anyway, as far as quality, fit and finish goes.....the Wingmaster is best.
However, the Norc is far, ,far, FAR above the express. I cant believe it myself, but the Norc has better feel, finish, and cycles more smoothly than the express. Even the guts look better on the Norinco! The steel trigger guard is a plus (express is plastic).
I think the Norc represents an excellent value and would buy another in a heartbeat.
Go for it!
They come with a 14" barrel (aftermarket barrels cost as much as the complete gun), receiver and tubes are better finished than on the Rem 870 Express, action bars smoothed out after 50 or so rounds (mine was smoother than the Express to begin with), has a metal trigger guard (Express has plastic which brakes after a couple of direct drops) and all aftermarket parts for the 870 fit the HP9-1.
But yeah, it's made in China.
Heres mine with a Hogue stock set (standard LOP), Wilson +1 extension, side saddle and butt shell holder (will soon mount a red dot and Wilson ghost ring sights):
i don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but i love mine.
put about 100 or so on the weekend and the only thing i was #####in about was a sore sholder
I find my 14" norinco to be heavier than my 18" remington. Maybe its just me.
Only bad things I have to say are that on both of my norinco 14's, I have had to replace or re-attach the bead sight because they just seem to get the urge to travel.
That and my current one gets finicky sometimes with the el-cheapo winchester shells with the low aluminum case. After firing them sometimes it can be a real pain jacking the slide back.
