Revolver is the new favorite

i define it like this- someone else paying for the ammo- automatic- if i'm paying for it, wheelgun, unless it's a competition where the automatic has the advantage- i'm left handed, and it's just a little more awkard to load the wheel, even using speed loaders

If you feel like Chuck Norris holding a .44 Mag, you might feel like if Chuck Norris was Superman's long lost brother from Krypton if you picked up a .500 Mag

wait till you move up to the 460- i started off with the 44, and i'm still there-i just don't like 5 shots instead of 6

I just took my newly acquired 6" GP-100 to the range last night and had a blast (no pun intended)! I agree that it's a very different experience from shooting a semi. Sadly I'm a horrible shot with it, though I'm (partly) attributing it to needing to break in the trigger. Shooting it single action I am pretty accurate, but in double... let's just say I'm better off hitting the target by throwing the gun at it :slap:

that's the TRIGGER THROW that's making you a lousy shot- unless you're shooting a d/a only auto, your auto also is single action or reverts to single after the first shot-so you're USED to getting that nice, clean, single action break- you don't get that with d/a revolvers- that long pull is there every time-it's just a matter of practice- mof, i look at using the s/a feature as cheating - if i would have wanted an s/a, i would have bought a blackhawk
the other school teaches you to sweep through the cycle as fast as you can, and completely IGNORE the trigger- right from front to back, one fluid movement, instead of squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, boom- with s/a it's only a squeeze, boom- you're not fighting the hammer and link mech the whole way when you #### the hammer

Oh yeah it's definitely the trigger throw that's throwing me off! I guess I didn't express that correctly (I was trying to finish off the message before leaving for work haha). I'll try the fluid movement you suggested. You're right about me squeeze, squeeze, squeezing the trigger! Thanks!

in the beginning i was like pistol only then really started appreciating revolvers bought a 686 nice wheel gun (sold it) bought the 4.2 gp100 love it feels well built. just picked up a 629 classic in 5' nice but find the quality or type of production not as good as my 686 was. examples i don't like the built in lock or the rough finish on the hammer and trigger also doesn't have the same shine. next up will be another revolver in .22 will be a sp101 or a s&w 617 undecided. for the smiths i really appreciate the older models but i am becoming more accepting for the newer ones. other manufactures like charter arms or taurus are not a consideration right now for me taurus had a couple of bad experiences and charter i have no experience with them.

Different guns for different times. I practice more seriously with the Beretta, but once I start feeling tired I whip out the Redhawk and it never fails to bring tears of joy to my eye.

There's this ridiculous enjoyment factor shooting a revolver, I don't know...

the beretta's a pistol, and , being 9mm, it's roughly the equivilent of the 38 special-basically ho- hum
the redhawk, on the other hand, is like when you give a STALLION it's head , if you ride- feels more like the hammer of thor unleashed- thunder, lightning, and RECOIL- you KNOW when there's a 44 in the house- and the backplate RINGS

... and then people stop and stare.

By the way the Beretta is a .40 S&W.

I was in my local shop last week looking for a .44 when the owner showed me a LNIB Colt .357 KC. What can I say, love at first sight! I'm off to the range this weekend to shoot it finally, can't wait!

Next up is a S&W 17 Masterpiece I think...ahhhh, so the obsession with wheelguns begins...lol

I bet my Hi-Power and Glocks are feeling jealous :p

I agree with everyone.. Once you shoot a revolver.. everything changes.. I bought a 686 canadian.. and love it.. had to get a 625...and now looking to get more.. Where does it ever end.. LOL i hope never..

Yeah, gotta say I love shooting my GP100 best as well, with .357 loads. Just feels right, and accurate as hell. I gave mine a 'semi-polish', just some details on underlug, trigger and guard, cylinder flutes....and then had to put rosewood Hogue grips on it. This picture shows the color the best. I also like shooting my Sig autos though....but the wheelgun is king of the safe.

I have a chance to pick up a S&W 17 for $400, I remember seeing it years ago and it was like new, I don't think it's been used much since then. Going to take a look at it again this week.

I'm sure it is, last time I saw it was in original box, guy never shoots it, he was talking of selling back then a good 18 years ago and pretty sure it been sitting since, I know he takes good care of it. I'm pretty sure it's a 17 likely bought in the late 70's to mid 80's? I happened to run into him the other day and he mentioned he would like to sell it, so going to stop by his place this week take a close look at it.

Just as I remembered mint in the original box, not even a box of 50 rounds through it.
Bought in 1978, spent most of it's life wrapped in a oil cloth, very nice piece.

Revolvers are pretty but I just don't care much for shooting them, sold my GP100 and 686 both 4.2" (Smith was a nicer gun of the two).
