Revolver Teams at 2009 Canadain IPSC Nationals

 Just what the recreational firearms community needs, another elitist.

By the way, us guys down east don't mind paying our own way

Another??????? Don't know where U'v been,, I been considered an "elitist" for a couple/few years now.:D Don't really undestand how not wanting to waste membership dues makes me an elitist  I'm against sending silver teams too, since they don't qualify for the team comp.

Whoa, Mike. I haven't seen anyone suggesting that revolver teams get funded, nor have I seen anyone propose to award them team trophies. All I saw was a suggestion that they register as revolver teams and compete against each other.

I think even the Revolver guys would agree that IPSC funding for revolver isn't going to happen and shoudn't.

team trophys

I was talking to Sean a few months ago about the revolver division and this is the email i got from him:

Hi Roger.

Contact Quality Inn - Airport Hotel in Halifax. They will be the match hotel. Ask for the Atlantic Marksmen Association rate; which is $109 for double occupancy.

The dates are tentatively July 29- Aug 2.

Sure, go for it with the revolver thing. Naturally, we need at least 10 competitors to recognize the division, but if you get them to come, we’ll get a trophy for it.

Congratulations on another well run match – I’ve heard glowing reviews all around…

Take care,
Sean.

I realise that, but if there is no official team trophy then why spend the money to enter a team. if its just for ####s a giggles then the shooters involved could figure out the scores on there own and save the fee.

Last I checked Revolver was and still is a Division in IPSC, and the members that partake in that division paid there membership fees.

What makes the other Divisions so special that they recieve support over Revolver?

Might I suggest that you read 'The Emperor's New Clothes” A story by Hans Christian Andersen. :bigHug:

Numbers.

Just to throw out some hypothetical (and not entirely unrealistic numbers), suppose your Province decides to fund a revolver division and you're the number 4th ranked shooter out of 4 people. You really think that you deserve funding over the guy that is 5th ranked in Production out of 25 people?

IPSC Canada recognized the importance of numbers when they decided to provide a Ring for production division ONLY if 35 competitors were registered in that division.

IPSC is even toying around with the idea of removing Modified division because of the lack of numbers.

Out here, we've had matches where 1 person showed up to shoot Revolver division and (against my arguments) the division was recognized. With our classification system, that shooter scored 100% and bumped up his average (another story, another rant).

I'll dig up some actual data for you later, but I gotta go to work.

Ontario has committed to sending a Revolver Team to the Nationals...if they are recognised for Team Trophies. I'm lead to believe that will happen (but not for me to confirm)

So, we will be sending 4 Gold Teams (Open, Standard, Prod, Revolver) all with the same Level of support.

While I don't realistically expect Revolver to take over...I do expect that with a bit of effort...in the future we could have a revolver Team from every section...and In Ontario...we should be able to get 20-30 active Revolver shooters through out the season.

So, we're putting forth an effort and we have to start somewhere...

Besides...you need something new to ##### about ;)

NB has also committed to sending a Revolver Team to the Nationals.

We as well as ON will be sending 4 Gold Teams (Open, Standard, Prod, Revolver) all with the same Level of support. (If we can find enough Open shooters)

Cheers

That what THIS IS ALL ABOUT :

This revolver match is a good idea.

Participation in the revolver division in Ontario has been increasing in the last two years and folks have even been having some fun by shooting revolver. What is so wrong with this?

So it may not be your choice for fun but why knock it? It seems like shooters in every division have something to say about folks in the other divisions. After all, you have your preference and have made a choice for you own reasons to shoot in a particular category over another.

Does your choice make you right and everyone else wrong? I think we have forgotten that we are all handgun shooters in a time when it it is not exactly politically correct to be so.

So surely anything that can do to build or sustain any aspect of our sport has to be worth supporting.

Glad to hear you chime in 455, as it is Rednek's and my intention to bring you behind the woodshed and give you the shellacking you richly deserve :p

As a wheelgunner, I thank those who have added there support for the upcoming Nationals and a revolver team.

Although I won't be at the Nationals, I am happy to see more people getting involved in this division.

YES

Next question.

IPSC Canada recognized the importance of numbers when they decided to provide a Ring for production division ONLY if 35 competitors were registered in that division.

I think that precedence has been set with the recognition of Production Division… If the participation level has reached the levels of when Production Division was recognized I am all for it.

If recognition is happening because 8-12 guys are dusting off their old wheel guns (or begging their buddies to shoot R.S. Division) for the Nationals, then I think that is pretty sad… especially if teams are being equally funded.

And I will say again… if the participation level in R.S. Division is coming on par to when Production Division was “recognized for ring, team trophies…” at Canadian Nationals way back when… then I am all for it.

I hope to shoot my first IPSC qualifier this year. And some club matches. I'll be shooting revolver. Cause that's my favorite gun to shoot. :)

Geez, these IPSC threads get complicated, quickly.

There have been no Discussions about Championship rings...just team trophies. No one thinks that RS is going to equal the rise of Prod...but we should acknowlege...that we can do better...

WAIT a Second,.....you mean to tell me people actually get funded to go shoot at Nationals??
I remember getting shirts and a jacket,......which was cool. I don't recall getting funded.

Also,..actually,..there were more NB revolver shooters last year at our provincials than NB Open shooters. FYI,...so......;)
