does the Marlin 795 have the same 'no magazine no fire' safety that the 70PSS Papoose has?
cause if so that is a deal breaker for me.
i loooooooooooooooooooooath firearms that wont wont shoot if you dont have the magazine.
dont jinx me man!!!!

Yah, it has the no-mag trigger disconnect. 30 seconds to disable it, and reversible to take it back to factory if you want to resell it.
(not my video)
Yes, both actions have a magazine disconnect. Curious though, what good is a semi auto without a mag? A bolt action sure, I get the annoyance but a semi? You're going to draw the bolt back and hold it open while you manually load a round, just to shoot one round?
I'm not sure why it bothers you so much, as I don't see much benefit to having a single shot blowback action. Besides, magazines are cheap as... buy a few spares. Seems like a ridiculous reason to call it a " deal breaker"... Maybe I'm missing something?
anything that can go wrong will.
which for me means im gonna loose the mag of the gun that has the magazine disconnect, guaranteed!
i wake up late at night in a cold swear fearing i cant shoot something because my magazine dropped out and the gun wont shoot.
we all have our 'things', mine is magazine disconnects.
just ask Constable Strongquill how good magazine disconnects work.... oh wait we cant, he died when his gun dropped the magazine and he could not shoot his gun to save his life.
extreme case i know but its a deal breaker for me.
Don't take this the wrong way, but is it possible you are just a little bias toward the ruger and that is blinding you from thinking rationally? As was posted earlier, it takes all of 30 seconds to disable/remove the magazine disconnect. And if you seriously think you might need to use a papoose or 795 to save your life one day but can't because you might accidentally lose or drop the mag... Well... I think you should maybe splash some cold water on your face and go for a nice walk in the country or something,... You're overthinking things.
you've never dropped or lost a magazine before?
if you answer yes to that then you don't shoot enough.
and ill be the first to admit im biased towards 10/22's and for good reason, they are better.
you dont often hear of people being biased towards AMC Gremlins, why would a person want to be biased towards something that is yucky?
haha, its a gun, its all personal preference, anyone that takes offense to an opinion on which gun is better over the internet should probably not be allowed on said internet.
question was asked what people thought of the 22's in the OP, i registered my opinion, a lot of which has to do with the magazine disconnect.
a lot of people will not buy or shoot Ruger 22/45 Lite's for the very same reason, do you think they should go outside for a walk as well?
and if i did go for a walk it wouldn't be with a gun that had a magazine disconnect on it!
(had to get that in there!)
Lol, I'm not offended man, I don't care who wants to like what kind of gun. I just think the disconnect thing is a silly reason to be a deal breaker is all, especially since it's easily bypassed. Besides, it's a .22 plinker/hunting rifle, not a personal defence rifle.
One thing you're right about is that I don't get to shoot enough these days, that's mostly a result of my desire to work too much than anything, and I frankly have too many hobbies. But no, I've never lost a mag, or accidentally dropped one while shooting. What can I say... I like to take good care of my gun stuff and not misplace or damage things. I don't run around on the range playing tommy tactical dropping mags etc, and I've absolutely never had one just fall out of the gun by accident.
As for the 10/22 I've briefly owned one and shot several, but none of them were anywhere near close to being as accurate as a Marlin, which for me is a BIG deal breaker. What I will say about them is they are very robust, well built and dependable guns that go bang every time. They're reliable and really customizable which I guess is a plus for some people... If I was more of a spendthrift I know I could make a very accurate one, but given the choice between a basic model 10/22 or a 795, i'd grab the Marlin every time. Every one I've owned has been as dependable as a 10/22 but way more accurate. And clearly I'm not the only one, as is evidenced by the clear overall bias toward the Marlin in this thread.
im tempted to pick up a full sized marlin 795.
i had never shot a marlin till this last couple months when i picked up a 70OSS Papoose and have been running it head to head against the ruger 10/22 take down.
sad to say with all the hype about the marlins the one i picked up has made a sad showing and is not an accurate gun at all.
i fear i picked up a lemon.
so im tempted to invest a couple beans into a 795 and see if i can get better results out of it.
i hear so much about how accurate they are and the micro grooves and such.
but then ive had fantastic results with 10/22's for the last 33 years its hard to turn away from something that is working so well.
knowing me ill pick one up, im a sucker for testing stuff.
