RFB initial thoughts, Range report ***JANUARY 31st ammo test at bottom of OP***

I do have some PRVI 175g match but haven't tried it...I'll give myself a couple more kicks at getting better with the RFB before I bring it out.

edit: thanks fireball for the update...wow, Mission was quite snowy compared to Poco. Excellent report!

edit#2: found some PRVI 168g match also that I'll try out once I get the RFB back from threading/compensator installed.

Fieball has updated the first post with further ammo testing. For those of you like myself who use the search to check updates and don't check the first page.

Maybe my understanding is off, but doesn't the unit MOA include distance?

I thought 1 MOA = 1 inch at 100 yards, or half an inch at 50 yards, or 2 inches at 200 yards etc etc.

Not exactly, but close enough for most people.

Lots of gun/load combinations are sub MOA at 100 yards. When you start to stretch it out to say 300 or 1000 yards maintaining that gets increasingly difficult. Not sure if thats what was meant or not...

$2399 is a lot of glue for something that I still haven't heard of shooting better than 2 MOA here....fill me in as to what the big appeal of this is other than excessively lightening the wallet.

2 moa gun eh?...my polytech m14 is a 2 moa gun, but it cost me $400...:nest::stirthepot2::popCorn:

That was sub 2moa through golf ball sized snow flakes and in cold/damp conditions. Plus shooting through large wet snow flakes doesn't help. Then there is trying to see the target. Fireball stated he couldn't feel his hands anymore and couldn't even see targets at 200 yards due to the weather conditions.

Consider this an accuracy test under worst conditions. Not a perfect conditions absolute accuracy test. That will come later.

This is the problem with the Internet. Oh look it's only a two moa gun!! Not really. Well see when shooting conditions are better what the ultimate accuracy really is. Plus benching a bullpup rifle isn't so easy. We're still working on it. It's a work in progress.

Also keep in mind reloading tests will be in the future along with better weather. Plus we think by getting the bottom rail, adding a bipod and the monopod that we can get rid of some of the difficulties being experinced trying to shoot a bullpup in a way it wasn't designed to shoot.

A short fast handling non-restricted bullpup semi-auto rifle in 308 and you have to ask?

X2. Plus it's a lot easier to shoot them in the three unsupported off hand positions. Due to this you may be able to shoot a two moa rifle more accurately off hand than a half moa rifle which shoots exceptionally from the bench.

Fireball and I have been talking about the results. We both think the rifle is capable of 3/4 Moa with the right load and good weather conditions once we figure out how to get a more stable platform to shoot a bullpup from. We're working on it. Mine should be here in a few weeks as well.

On a side note...for those of you looking to get the RFB barrel threaded I've enquired at Dlask about doing it. They'll do the work for $65 (+ taxes/shipping) with a week turn around time (not including ship time). I'll be dropping mine off on Friday the 14th to have it threaded 5/8x24 RH and I'll be putting on a PWS FSC30 (in case anyone wants to know). There's a guy on the KTOG forum with the same setup and seems to love it.

So I was talking to fireball the other day. He was saying how he saw this great rest while at the range that he thought would solve the stability problem when shooting the RFB from a bag. It had 3 prongs, a wheel and then a bag on top. I asked him if it was green and cast iron. When I told him I was looking at one sitting on my desk, some choice words were said. Feelings were hurt.

Apparently he thinks my Cadwell's Rock benchrest will do the trick. We'll give it a try.

My RFB arrived. I pick it up on Friday.
We'll be reloading two different ladders. Mine will be with RL15 powder and 168 SMK. Fireball will be reloading with some powder he scraped off the parking lot ground and 168 SMK.

Tomorrow, tomorrow.... wait another minute and it will be today.

Epoxy7 - want to wager a box of Federal Gold that the last two digits on yours will be 87 or 89? Hope the RL15 works, have several pounds of it. If you have some 168s left over I have Varget I can contribute to cause. Think its time I order that chrony.

Fireball - Epoxy7 tells me you had a screw loose...

(hijack in process) The only thing better than one RFB is...

and yes Fireball, your mag is bigger than mine
(but it is not how deep you fish but how you wiggle your worm).

Oh man, I have to stop reading these threads. The wait for my RFB is killing me. I called Wanstalls yesterday and they told me it would be roughly ten weeks to get mine (I'm number 10 on the list). I can't wait and going through these threads makes the wait worthwhile but at the same time it's eating me up inside for not getting mine now.

And speaking of Kel-Tec, I wouldn't mind seeing this baby up here either, the Kel-Tec shotgun with dual tube magazines.

WELL SAID !

By the way the yanks with RFB'S have reported ONE M.O.A. with correct loads.

The bullpup design makes the RFB unsteady in bench rest shooting because the 2 support points are to close together for stability. The 8 pound trigger doesnt help either.

But it is the closest thing to big game handgun hunting in Kanada we will ever have - (those who have handled an RFB know exactly what I'm talking about) -

Is there any chance of this rifle being chambered in/available in 260 Rem?

If it is available and accurate with that round I'm in...

:D

At the risk of going off topic, I understand that the greater the distance, the harder it is to maintain grouping, but sub-MOA at 300 yards means getting your shots into a (approx) sub 3 inch group. Sub MOA at 25 yards means getting your shots into a 1/4 inch group.

I think some people are confusing MOA with "inches".
