Hello all, I just mounted a vortex viper on my RFB with a Burris PEPR ar style mount. As so....

My issue is, the mount nuts are too close to the charging handle. So I would like to flip the mount around, which will make it sort of AUG looking. Can anyone foresee a problem with that?

Rally Guy has your problem solved with the extended charging handle is a great addition to the rifle either way.

Canucklehead also has it bang on with the ADM mount.

If your set on keeping the Burris PEPR for now and cant get the extended charging handle quickly flipping the PEPR around doesn't cause any issues at all. I ran mine like that for some time before switching optics and mounts.

Is it the quick release version of the PEPR mount? If so you can keep the two release levers on the left side. You just need to flip the levers around which they do.

Extend the search parameter to 3 years and newer. There is a big RFB thread from when the RFB first came to Canada. I posted pictures and how to setup the PEPR QR mount for the RFB without having to turn it backwards.

I plan on using an ADM Recon S, I plan on mounting it so the levers are on the right side and the charging handle on the left so i shouldn't have any problems. I suppose thats the issue with cantilever/offset mounts. you're limited to the way it was intended to be mounted. Though turning a cantilever around shouldn't cause any problems unless there's MOA built into it, other than looking a little funny.

The Burris PEPR mount with quick release arrived today, courtesy of Fireball. This is the newest version of the mount. Others on this site have used the non quick release and when asked have said the height for their scopes was perfect. Getting your scope the perfect height seems to be a bit of a challenge with the RFB. Well, it is the perfect height. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

One of the concerns when we ordered the quick release version was the fact that the quick release is on the left side which interfers with the charging handle. Honestly it would tick me off but I'd live with it just due to the rest of the mount being pefect. As it turns out though, you can turn the quick release handles so they face backwards instead of forward. This solved the problem. The quick release latch now sits exactly where the charging handle stops. It works great.

Kel-Tec RFB, Burris Fullfield II 3-9x 40mm with Ballistic plex, and Burris PEPR quick release mount. For those wanting the component list.

I'm really looking forward to shooting this rifle some more. With the previous rings I had the scope was never the right height. That metal stock isn't much fun when you're having to press your cheek into it, or do the looking over the scope trick because it's too low.

Some pictures (Yes it balances on the pistol grip).

The charging handle can just be swapped to the other side so it is like other rifles that you may have.
You can also add a kydex cover/cheek piece to cover the exposed metal.

before...

after...

I dont think it looks bad mounted backward. I want the charging handle on the left side, so ill keep it this way for now. Ill get a ADM mount in the future, once the sting of a $3100 rifle and optic purchase wears off. Ill look into an extended charging handle and maybe a kydex cheek piece too.

I had a burris ar-332 on it before, it had the same mounting nuts then the pepr and the extended handle fix that problem, I also run a adm mount, it the recon I think, the nice thing about the adm is if you change scope tube size you only have to order the ring not the entire mount.

Let me know how you like the pepr, I had one on my rfb and out of the box I didn't really like it, one lever did not lock and everything just seem to come loose. I probably just got a bad unit, cause I love all other burris product. I email wolverine and they didn't return my email on the lever. It was still working but I wasn't too keen on it. I love my adm now! All I would ant is a burris 1.5-8x28 and I would be a happy camper.

Which ADM mount did you find works best?

I found the ADM recon mount works best with firearms with a side mounted charging handle. Basically you get the mounting hardware as far to the rear on the rail as possible while the offset lets you maintain correct eye relief. The ADM quick detach is pretty low profile, lower than the similar PEPR model from Burris. I find the clearance to be acceptable when using the charging handle without raping your fingers. Barring that, the extended tactical charging handle will also create more clearance.

Personally I would not swap the handle to the RH side. My first black rifle was a FAL and I am partial to charging handle on the weak side. Putting it on the strong side requires more manipulation of the weapon (yes even just the added action of having to rotate it a la AK) so that's not something that I would be likely to recommend.

YMMV

Mine locks up well. You can adjust the tension with the round adjustment dials on the opposite side of the levers. I've had this for four years. The way it's setup I don't rap my knuckles on the levers and the regular charging handle works great.

That being said I have a couple ADM mounts on AR rifles and they are nicer. More expensive but it is my favourite mount. The Burris works decently, is cost effective but not as nice of a product.
