RIA/Armscor M22 vs Ruger 10/22 (head to head comparison)

Thanks for the comparaison. I bought one of the RIA as a gamble. It was rough around the edges when it came around to finish, but it works. I broke one of the cheap mount screws while torquing them to spec and O'Dells said they had zero spare parts for the M22.

Great write-ups! I have one that I put a Burson scope on and have shot it a fair bit. No serious problems with it. Works with my variety bag of magazines. Stock looks kind of funny under the gooey paint they put on originally. I haven't cleaned it, nor did I do any mods. I plan to keep shooting it until it quits, then I'll clean it. :) I just gave it a few rubs of BLO.

I have a good mind to buy a few more! :)

another thread that i wanted to come in and finish up on.

seems that now spring is here my dad and my co-workers finally decided to get their RIA's all done up and serviceable.

thought id come in and give a closing account now that ive had a bit of time to shoot these guns and play with them.

i still have 2 of mine on original ruger wood stocks.
im keeping them for my kids to use when they get a bit older and better at shooting.
ive had those 2 our a couple of time and i have yet to have any failures or misfires.

my dad decided he didnt like the BC folding stock on his and he ordered in a Hogue overmolded stock and i put that on for him this week, also he put on a new red dot.
we've had his out last 2 days and put a LOT of rounds down it.
ran into only 1 problem, he had purchased 3 steel lip mags for it and 1 of them wouldnt fit.
im gonna look more at it and find out why but it just would not even go in and if ya did slam it in it wouldnt seat properly.

so thats a mag problem, not the gun.

so, my 2 and my dads 1 so far are great.
i did polish up the insides and the bolt and gave them a good cleaning with G96 which i think went a long ways to making them run so good.

my co-workers all went about thiers a little different.
1 ordered in a Boyd's stock and put a compact scope on it.
he loves it!

another co worker went with a original ruger stock and a cheap scope, he gave it to his sons since they live on a farm and they have been abusing the gun and no problems.

3rd co-worker picked up a knock off Boyd stock from a LGS for well under $100 and as with the other 5 no problems.

so, 6 guns and no problems with any of them.
i think a lot of that is due to the real good initial cleaning and polishing up of the bolt.

conclusion;
for $139 im very happy with my purchase.

here are some pics of how everyones builds ended up.

my 2 are still the same as above in the original post.

looks like i miss placed my other co workers pic, ill have to dig around to find it.

This has got to be the best write up I've seen on the M22. Great job wayupnorth!

Picked a complete one up myself at a local gunshow, but haven't had a chance to take it down and clean it up, let alone fire it. I agree with the poor quality of the stock sights though. I guess I need to do some looking around to see if I can find an aftermarket one that fits.

Bought two the other day to put on our table. First one we took out appeared to have a fine tiger stripe all over the stock. Back in the box. This one went home. So far I have only removed the paint from the part ahead of the barrel band. Sure enough, it has the nicest stripes. I will post pics when I get it finished.

I put my RIA 10/22 into a zombie green Hogue stock.
I put in a VQ extended mag release, extractor, takedown screw and bolt release.
I have a new buffer to put in at some point.
It loves CCI blazer, but won't work worth a damn with Winchester bulk ammo.
It loves Ruger mags, but hates Butler Creek mags.

Once I discovered that mine loves CCI Blazer ammo and Ruger mags, it's been 100% reliable.
The other parts are just nice cheap upgrades. Depending on who you ask, they are a necessity for RIA and Ruger 10/22s.

Love this rifle.

My ruger was also more accurate than my RIA but not nearly as big of a difference as shown here. My ruger was about a 1 inch at 50 yards gun and Rock Island about 1.5 inch at 50 yards. I shortened the chamber on rock island to same depth as ruger and now difference between 2 is very small. Got a few other experiments with rock island to try yet.
