Rifle Actions

I just picked up a Pristine repeater with an extra bolt for a switch barrel rifle in 22 ARC / 6mm Creed. I haven't seen or used the Ultimatum or KS actions, but I am sure they're good choices. I like the price of the Pristine action and have had no issues on my Pristine 22ARC coyote rifles in the first 400ish rounds fired

So I’ve handled the Ultimatum actions at a show this year and they are definitely a slick choice! I haven’t had my hands on a KS action but heard very good things from people who have them! I think for me it would be a wait time thing and seeing who has them available sooner!

Side note I do have two pristine repeaters and like them! I love the Canadian made idea!

What barrel are you planning on running?

Any reason why Cadex isn’t in the mix Jim? I see a few in the shooting matches, but don’t hear much in people using them for a custom build, more so the Cadex built rifles it seems.

I’m looking to build another rifle for the hunter and sporter class’s in the tweedsmuir shoot. KS arms does a way better job with the good photos on their site. The 3 lug with the reg trigger tech looks sharp! I’m not sure a guy would notice the difference on target between them, but the KS’s look way nicer!

I see the KS offers the KSLR single shot, do the others offer single shot with a solid bottom?

Ultimatum has the HMB action for not bad price as well. I’m not a beer guy though, the name is kinda a turn off 🤣

No kidding how can you not like beer. I have zero experience with a Pristine or IBI action but have shot a KS long action quite a bit. Very nice action and smooth as glass. I would say it’s as nice as my defiance deviants. If I was doing a full custom these days I would get KS to do the build with their action and barrel as long as they would give me a half moa guarantee

I have the KS 3 lug barreled action SA for my 6 Br, so far its been reliable and shooting .2s”

Thats impressive. When I was considering a 6BR I read a ton about actions and it seemed like 3 lug was very hit or miss when it came to 6BR to get it feeding good..

Ultimately I picked up a two lug 90 degree Impact and it has been awesome. I did pick up a QC Zeus 3 lug and it is slick too (totally different to the Impact - each has their strengths and weaknesses) but as mentioned if I build again I will be looking hard at KS.

I read the same thing about the br case and 3 lugs, but I went with a cadex 7 stars in an mdt acc and I used the mdt br specific magazines and I haven’t had any problems. Maybe I got lucky

The stuff I read made me nervous for sure hence the two lug Impact. Its a real nice action / very smooth.

I went with a similar setup for the rest of the build, MDT ACC and MDT BR mags. Come to think of it it was a little fussy and then out of nowhere MDT sent me upgraded magazine followers (maybe springs too, cant remember) and they cleaned it right up.

At first the ejection occasionally was not perfect, sometimes the fired brass was already drop( on the railway) from the bolt face before it passing to the port. Relay the problem to Mike at KS and I requested if he can extend the ejector by moving it a little just below the bolt face, filed the ejector ( notch at the rear for the pin so it can move forward) , feeding was never problem even at the start. Using MDT 6 Br mags btw

Good to know.

It seems 6BR is an awkward size of a cartridge that causes issues with feeding on some setups, I think I read somewhere that was at least in part why 6GT came along (slightly longer cartridge which helps alleviate that issue although there are already others close to it on the 6mm options list).

Yes, but 6 Br is just fun to shoot, from recoil to accuracy. Lol, with regards to ejection problem many encountered with the 6 Br, its been a popular remedy to just lengthen the ejector just a little below the bolt face, by filing the slot( pin) to move the ejector forward , this way the ejector is keeping the brass tight to the extractor before moving back to the port

Pristine or IBI or KS action for a single shot target rifle build ? Cartridge will be a 224 cal - All Canadian made . Which one and why ? 🤷🏼‍♂️
What’s your guys thoughts on metal material, hardness and metal coatings? I thought my cadex was not stainless, but I was reading this morning and it turns out it is. It’s not on your list, but it is super slick and has dlc on the bolt and cerakote on the body. I find cerakote on cerakote not very smooth. Nitride coating like the ks arms action is one of the best. I have nitride coating on two of my actions. The ks arms is a super tough non-stainless, but I’m no metallurgist.

Do any of the others offer an integral recoil lug? Or rail? I’d go with a one piece bolt, but it seems lots of target actions have interchangeable bolt heads these days. Cadex has a bolt on rail and separate recoil lug. The ks has a bolt on rail(I think it’s pinned) and an integral lug. I don’t think any of them have a trigger shoe. Is there any need for pre-fit barrels?

I went with the 6 GT and I’m Really liking it ! Not Fussy- Easy to load ! 👍😊
Not sayin theres anything at all wrong with the 6 BR or a 6 Dasher cartridge’s 😀
