I have a Remington long action with a std boltface (0.473) that is need of a barrel of some sorts.

Im not exactly sure what I need to build. Im kind of out of ideas. I pretty much have or have covered
most of the 30-06 based cartridges.

The only thing I seem to be missing is a cool wildcat or a big bore of some sorts.

I can always modify the bolt face or install a sako-style extractor if I need a bigger bolt face.

Looking for suggestions.

I suggest you don't screw up the present extractor system... nothing worse than the partial installation of the Sako extractor system... if you need a bigger bolt face, buy or trade the action for what you need.

To fill a gap I researched the 260 Remington and the 6.5 x 55. The 6.5 would require a long action but the first rifle offered was a short action which helped my decision.
Ordered the barrel from Mystic, and got Dennis to do the gunsmithing.
Using the Sierra Manual, there are 3 loads at 2700 fps using 140 grain bullets while there are 6 loads at 2700 for the 260. That does not make much difference.
However, with a .473 bolt face and a long action you have lots of scope.

I like the 6-5-06 but if you want a larger bore I would go for 338-06 35 whelan or 9.3.62 without modifications to the action. I like the 9.3x62 but in reality all would be equally capable. Don't want to start a war here.

Im already planning to build a 22-250 in the near future to replace the one I just sold. Here is what I already have. Looking to fill the gaps
or for something "cool".

I'm liking the idea of a 240wby (for coolness) or the 6mm-06 for practicality (and brass cost). Seem both cartridges are pretty similar in performance with the
edge going to the 6mm-06.

Here' is a quick list of what I already have (probably missed some)

204 Ruger
22-250
243
257 wby (remington)
257 wby (sako)
6.5 Creedmoor
260 Rem
6.5x47 lapua
7-08
7mm RUM
280ai
30-06
338 win
338 Edge
338 lapua ai
35 Whelen
375 Ruger

I dont have any true big-bores but there isnt much I can think of that will work on a standard long action except maybe a 416 Ruger.

A speedy little 6mm might be a good choice to fill between 22-250 and the 257wby.

8 mm rem mag or if you don't want to modify the bolt 8mm gibbs. i had one that pretty much matched my 325 for performance.
