Rifle Painting

After all this talk of painting rifles I figured I would give it a shot and try a cammo paint job on my USGI M-14 fiberglass stock. After all how tuff can a simple cam job be, I mean if Skullboy can do it , it must be easy!!:p :D

So off I go to the harware store and grab the finest cans of Krylon Black Green Tan and Brown paints and a few rolls of tape and a clear coat hardener for a finish coat. I have full intent of making this a real dream camo job to make all M14's pale in comparison.

Well this is what I learned.

1. The smell of Krylon paint lasts about 3 days if sprayed in your basement and carries throughout the house duct work setting off smoke alarms. (the instructions on the can say use in a well ventilated area.....guess they mean it. )

2. Overspray is a real ##### to get off the things you don't want the wife to know you painted for her.:bigHug:

3.Krylon stays on the hands a long time.!! anyone know any good soap to get it out.

4. Remove masking tape used to make cammo pattern before it dries and becomes a permanent part of the stock.

5. If you have no artistic tallent what-so ever leave the paint in the closet.:bangHead:

6. Save black as the last color you use. Smartest thing I did at least I can paint the stock all black and no one will know I attempted to cammo paint my rifle stock.:slap:

7. Next time I get the urge to paint a stock.....Mail it off to Skullboy.:D :slap:

I may post some pics of my Custom M-14 with my Custom BLACK paint job some time.  :D

TAG body spray sprayed in the same room for 3 seconds, after your finished painting will hide the smell from the rest of the house

#3 I forgot how much of a hard on Skullboy's paintjobs gave me.
#4 I shall not pass a good deal on a rem700P
