I thought sights needed proper import permits from the USA. There is a guy in the US saying he can ship directly to my PO Box. It’s just simple rifle sights. Is this ok to do or do I need someone to import for me?

I don’t want to lose them at the border, and lose my cash in the process.

Sorry, I haven’t kept up on all the stupid rules the last few years.

Company is called Doves custom guns.

Thanks!

I ordered a set last year from NECG, they arrived safe and sound with no additional paperwork required. Could have been luck but it worked for me.

The laws have changed
No export permit on sights but when you pick up your parts at post office, Canada post will charge you a 25 percent duty thanks to Ottawa overlords

I have ordered NECG sights directly a dozen times with no issue. The paperwork requirement is on the manufacturers end. Many small manufacturers don't see the Canadian market worth the expense and hassle.

No they won’t. This ended Sep 1

Sights can be shipped direct. I’ve had several sent in the last 6 months.

I have never been charged any HST for orders of $150 or less that I pick up in the US. I never use Canada Post, FedEx or UPS as I hate being ripped off plus a lot of stuff shipped within the US is free.

I just got nailed 25 percent a few weeks ago. I forget if they called it a tarrif or duty but the post office wouldn't give me my parcel until I paid it and it was a gun sight from Buffalo arms

I’d love to see your CBA slip. IF they charged you a 25% tariff you got hosed. There is no 25% tariff.

I thought the same too, today (yes today, I heard the conversation with my ears as I was with him hunting) the company my buddy works for (US based, opened an office up here) was going to import a used pickup truck from their US office to their Canadian office, for him. They did the paperwork and they were set to drive it across today. Before the driver left, they double checked everything was good with CBSA and they were informed there was a $10,000 tariff on it (used truck, company owned) so they kept it there and bought him a new truck from a dealer here.

A few weeks ago a local rancher from here bought a new Chevy duramax in Texas, even with exchange it was cheaper, flew down, bought it and drove it home. Got to Canadian customs and got dinged $25,000 tariff. Something ain't adding up, especially with vehicles, I thought they were always exempt. Guess not.

That being said, about 6 weeks ago, I ordered a new bolt face for a savage 243 I had (long story) from Kinney's shooting supplies and I wasnt charged a tariff, just duty at the post office.

I think the OP is pretty safe on tariffs but it still might be a gamble.

Well they charged me 25 percent. No difference to me if they call it a duty or a tariff. It’s still 25 percent.
It matters significantly. Place of origin comes into play. The Province it is imported into comes into play etc. If someone is going to make an informed decision on whether to import something or not they can’t just go off of guesses and well wishes.

Sights are fine. As an aside, I just ordered a part for one of my single shot rifles ( reproduction of antique ) and it was held up a bit at customs but no duty. GST, PST, and a $9.95 handling fee. Part was made in USA

Chris.

So if I order it and I'm in Alberta I pay 25percent to Ottawa but if someone in another province orders it the no 25 percent?
I ordered a reproduction of a antique sight for a old gun. I looked online before I ordered the stupid thing and Canadian government said no more import tarpon gun parts. The filthy crooks are full of it

I have bought several Skinner Sights no issues. USPS shipping is best. Don't ship via UPS - they charge an extra handling fee of at least 40 - 50.00 bucks ...

Its all up to the U.S. based company - all depends on their own export permits etc. Some are set up, most are not.
