Rifle slugs ???

This might sound like a stupid question, keep in mind when I ask, I've never used slugs in my life. Can rifle slug be used in a smooth bore.

Also is $5.50 a box of 5 a good price for slugs their Win Xtreme rifle slugs

That's where I got the two boxes at crappy tire there $5.49 per, the Remmy ones were $6.49 per and the Feds were $7.49. Maybe after the hunting season the price will drop, soz they can get rid of them.

"...Can rifle slug be used in a..." That's what they're for. Sabotted slugs are for rifled barrels. Sabotted slugs are relatively new thing. Rifled slugs are not.
 
I cant wait for the price of Sabots to drop to the price of Fosters. Really, a die made for sabots has to be cheaper to manufacture than that of a rifled die or casting so why why why, do they cost $10-15 more per 5 shells.

Because they know people will pay the extra.
 
I have fired hundreds of those thru my smoothbore 18" 870 .... Decent accuracy up to about 50 yards then it starts to drop off quickly .... Some of them still land on paper at 200 but by then you're getting more into "hail Mary" territory.

Actually, the rifling on the slugs doesn't impart a spin at all and is there only to allow the slug to swage down in tight chokes. The slugs fly straight because they are nose heavy with a hollow base like a shuttle ####. Rifled slugs can be supprisingly accurate, especially when fired from a smooth bore slug barrel, with an improved cylinder choke and a scope.

Does that work well, what sort of range should be expected?
Rifled barrel the same as a smooth barrel when it comes to slugs?
I will get out to the range and test it one of these days but am wondering what to expect. Seems to me I bought Winchester slugs, not sure if they are rifled or not.
Sorry, but new shotgun and never really used one before.
I have both rifled and 26" choked barrel for my 870

"Effetive" range varis from gun to gun but common wisdom seems to be that 75yards is about the maximum "reasonably" range, especially considering the lack of proper sights.

They shoot very well in a rifled barrel.

Someone above asked about standard slugs in a rifled barrel. There's no disadvantage to using standard slugs in a rifled barrel over a smooth barrel, and the "Box o' Truth" video suggest standard (rifled) slugs may shoot more accuratedly in a rifled barrel than a smoothbore.
