Here is my 1951 Russian SKS. The stock and mag are "force matched" to the rest of the rifle. The oil bottle is from the "Izy" armory (weird). It also came with 3 stripper clips, an original SKS sling, and the cleaning tube and rod. I added a 1 inch rubber slip-on butt plate extension ( I have long arms) and an Allen bullet sleeve.

I purchased this at Canadian Tire here in Dartmouth, NS about a month ago. They were on sale for $169.99. I made an attempt to refinish the furniture. I'm not completely happy but as a first attempt at refinishing anything, I don't think it's all that bad. BTW, the picture showing the colour as a "reddish" brown is correct. The other pictures were taken under a different light and are not correct.

EDIT

I just got back from Canadian Tire (tonight - 10 Dec 15) with my new (old) 1939 Mosin Nagant 91/30. There were six of them on display and this was the oldest and also in the best condition. All the numbers match accept the magazine. Just like the SKS, there was no cosmoline and it had been cleaned and oiled. The bayonet does not seem to fit all the way down, so I'll have to do some research to see why. And, this one has the Tula Armory stamp as well.

So that's where all the PU snipers went! Gordonlbyrne has them!
HAha That's ok. I finally got mine :) And she is a great shooter :) 100 yards.

This is a good place to ask if anyone knows where I can get a Mosin bent bolt conversion done in Canada?
I also have an ex sniper that I want to restore.

This one is a genuine sniper. Always has been :)

"Restoring" an ex sniper is generally considered equal to a Bubba job. It is in its correct configuration as an ex sniper.

I know! I'm having internal conflict about doing it! The PU sniper is sooo much fun!
But I'm sort of justifying to myself by doing it, if I use an authentic scope and mount on the 1943 Tula ex sniper.
It also shoots great! Not quite like this one. At least not without a scope. But I have shot 2" groups several times. 100 yards.

I also have a 1937 model in great shape. No desire to tamper with that one. It shoots roughly 3" groups at 100 yards.

@@@Sigh@@@ I know you are right! I can't do that to this great gun after all.

@@UPDATE@@ I think I need shock therapy, I woke up this morning and want to scope it again.
Even thinking about using the bolt in my original sniper. Switching back and forth depending on which PU sniper I want to take to the range.

I put a lot of thought into it this today.
If I found a Tula scope mount and base. Also a 1943 or 1944 PU scope my gun would look just as it did when it was a sniper. The only off item would be that the serial number on the scope mount wouldn't match my receiver. Well also the bolt number would match my Izzy PU sniper.

I must have the BUBBA gene in my family tree.

My father was from Ukraine. Maybe my grandfather and great grandfather were stripping shellac of Mosin Nagant stock and oiling them, cutting wood to make them lighter, and maybe even carving their own stocks?

Time to clean my guns to get my mind off such evil thoughts.

This one has a very nice trigger. Of course I love the fire ball and blast that makes the Mosin Nagant carbine stand out at the range :)
