Let's play a game.

It may just be a nicely cathartic experience, and a litmus test of members' impulse control!

DO: Describe a brand or model of rifle you just don't like. You look at it and pick it up, and just "Nope.. uh uh. Blech." Describe why.

DON'T: Get in a brawl with another poster as to why he's wrong.

My submissions would be: Browning A-bolt and X-bolt rifles. I can't put my finger on just what it is, but they just seem completely without soul or substance when I handle one. I suspect it's all those angles on the action and bolt. I find circles more pleasing to the eye I guess?

Weatherby rifles - mostly just the stocks on Weatherby rifles. I find the extremely exaggerated comb/cheek piece and dropped butt, and "look at meee!" flared pistol grip and angled forend to be... hideous. I don't recall whether it was O'Connor, Keith or some other gunwriter of the time that described Weatherby's stocks as 'California Cathouse' styled, but he nailed it IMO.

Tavors and T97s. I like the AUG though. Why? The lines just do not 'work' for me. The curved magazine angle doesn't compliment the grip angle. The whole gun (both of them) looks like a bunch of parts that were mashed together to function without any consideration to aesthetics. That giant handle looking thing on the T97 is in my opinion hideous and the equally ugly curved cocking handle just annoys me. A flat top with an unobtrusive knurled bolt knob would have been nice. In general the unbalanced design with all the bulk of the design at the back seems lopsided and although I have yet to fire one, I'm not sure about having the ejection port right next to my ear to be the best concept of all time. All in all these bullpup-style rifles seem to just scream 'look at me, look at me'. For sure NOT my cup o' tea! Obviously some people must like the way they look.

I generally have no love for semi-automatic centerfire rifles.

However, If I had to choose one rifle that I despise, it would be the Browning A-Bolt.
It is not the looks that repel me, it is certain functional features.

Regards, Dave

Savage 99 not sure why, I know they have a loyal following and are good shooters, but they just look odd to me.

Have to admit that I find it hard to equate the word 'hate' with any firearm, but if aesthetics are the issue, I would put the Savage Axis XP and the Ruger paddle stocks into the category of less than appealing.

I for no reason that's justified, do not like SAKO, I know they shoot exceptionally, they look decent, they are smooth, but they just don't feel right to me. I have used them enough to make an honest judgement, the 85's, TRG's, A111. Just can't stand them.

I dont care for the Browning BAR, never seen one shoot worth a damn, not a fan of the BLR, or the mossberg rifles either.

In the could be improved category

Ruger 77's , had 2 out of 3 purchased new that couldnt shoot minute of pie plate, third one was a really accurate little hawkeye. The whole investment casting cheapassness and goofy tiny angled recoil lug coupled with the worst trigger imaginable just doesnt make sense other than to save a buck and break a stock. C'mon, put a proper recoil lug on it!! fix the damn trigger and now that the barrels are better you've got a bullet proof rifle.

Tikka T-3's, nice and lite, accurate as all get out but cheap feeling, I would probably buy a couple if you could stuff a round through the top in a hurry.
another one of those what the hell were they thinking things, I can get over the plastic but not being able to charge the mag throught the top is just dumb.

CZ 550's, I absolutely love em, but the length of pull is too long for me (not insurmountable I know, maybe shoulda ate my spinach) , they're heavy and they dont make em in stainless. CZ needs to wake up , slim em down and offer some stainless options.

Have made it a point to try most rifles but there are a few I have never owned and never will they just do nothing for me, Browning A and X Bolt, BAR, Tikka and any of the entry level guns such as Stevens, Axis, Ruger American ect. I am sure they function fine and shoot well just nothing about them says take me home. For years I felt the same about the Remington 700, but actually have a few now that shoot and feel very good, the 35 Whelen in a 700 one of my go to rifles now. Also not really a stainless fan but have one built on a Mdl 70 by Martini which I will never give up.

Man, I believe this thread has been done, but requels are cool in Hollywood why not here!

Savage bolt guns. Ugly soulless bastard step child of the bolt gun world. They look cheap, feel cheap, and are cheap. And their rabid fan boys only make it worse.
Anything Mossberg; there supposed to be Swedish! At least Norinco has an excuse for making ####e.
Weatherby Mark V rifles. Overweight, over priced and gawdy. The stock ergonomics for me quite well and are not the issue; its the over the fact that every "feature" had no design input outside of a greasy sales team. If the rifles sold for Remington/Winchester prices I would complain less.
Browning A-Bolt. Dumbest functional designs on the planet. The magazine system is 'tarded.
And HS Precision. They need to wake up and realize they make good, high end production rifles. Not $4000 customs for a glorified Remington with a three position safety. They don't have a model worth more than $2500 and most should be closer to $1900.

cooey 22lr single shot

pure garbage ... cheep, rinky dink guns .. accurate to minute of barn..

i've got 3, and they were given to me and i feel ripped off haha

maybe thats a little harsh... the way people talk them up, you'd think it was a CZ

ugh

Remington 700, they're like the town bicycle, everyone had one or has taken one for a ride, and a safety that people seem to think isn't an issue. Oh, and they are basically a copy of the mauser action, who needed ingenuity when you can just copy? At least the safety on the mauser worked.

Other then that, there's nothing really wrong with it, action is fine accuracy is usually decent, good entry level rifle, no reason to dislike it, I just got no love for it.

The mossberg tacti-cool lever is a close 2nd place.
