Rim fire scope

A rimfire scope to me must have side focus or adjustable objective. Which generally means at least 12x on the zoom.

I've tried rimfire scopes. Parallax fixed at 50. Work great, you can use max zoom in close but once you shoot out to 100 plus like is common with a good rifle in a gopher patch everything's blurry and it simply doesn't work well.

Centerfire scopes work well on the far shots but you can't use more than about 7x at 50 yards and even there you can have parallax issues.

With a scope with adjustable parallax all these issues are gone.

On my CZ-455 and my Sav B22-FV I have a couple of the Cabelas Covenant-4 in 6-24x50 FFP-SF that are fine out beyond 100yds. The COV-4 is Disc, but now there is Covenant-5 which is quite similar. The reticle has Numbers every 4th bar of a Christmas tree, in MOA to 36MOA. When on Sale might be $100 or so Lower.

I find the reticles on those waay to busy.

^ ^ Depends on what you're doing. I want to have quick reference to determine verticle holds w/o having to adjust turrets. Changing Para is enuf work. When I'm using max mag, I only see a small part of the 'tree so it's not too "Busy". And Lower mag, I just focus on the crosshair

I`ve taken a liking to the Leupold Freedom Rimfires with Tri MOA reticles. Parallax set at 60 yards with reasonably good glass and defined hash marks w/o cluttering up the field of view make for an excellent user friendly gopher killing machine. Once you figure out and confirm the hash marks and ranges as related to the ammunition you are using this allows aim and shoot without fiddling with turrets or parallax out to any realistic .22 LR ranges.

I agree, save yourself some potential headache and go with a scope that has an adjustable parallax.
Picked up another 22 last month, thinking about a vortex diamondback hp, 3-12x - for it.

If you use a rimfire scope with parallax set at 50 or 60 yards, it will do everything that you need to do out to realistic .22 ranges, there is no need for "adjustable" parallax. Where the problem starts is when people mount a rifle scope with 100 or 150 yard set parallax on a .22 and expect consistent accuracy from 10 yards out, then yes you need adjustable parallax.

See the Athlon scope manual - page 2 - shows the reticle at 34X. Not too much stuff in the 'busy' lane. And the Covenant is similar when at 24X.

I've noticed they really need to add a like button for replies. This is awesome stuff every one, thank you. I took a look at the Bushnell matchpro, nice scope. I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend the price of the rifle on an optic for basically a grouse/small game hunting rifle when realistically you're looking at 50 yards. But it has side parallax down to 10 yards. Nice feature and nice reticle.

I have a beautiful CZ 452 that I wanted to put a scope on. I tried an older Tasco target scope (6 x 24) and in order to clear the tangent sight I had to use fairly tall rings, and had to add a lace-on cheek piece, and it was never quite right; and I did not want to remove the tangent sight.

I ended up picking up a Sun Optics "Shorty Forty" and am very happy with it. Very fine mill-dot reticle, with low mounts the front bell sits just behind the tangent sight. Optics are very clear, and it has front parallax adjustment not as handy as on the side, but no real hardship either. It was so inexpensive I almost did not buy it. With good ammo, when I do my part, it is pin-point accurate. Only criticism is that the turret clicks are not as positive as I would like, but that did not stop me from getting it set up. Very basic scope, but like someone else noted regarding a fancy tactical reticle... Simple and uncomplicated can be a good thing. Got mine from Canadian Tire, about $150.00

CanTire has these Tasco SF scopes on 'store clearance' so if you have a CT nearby you could check them out. I have one on my Marlin-60 and for a 4-12x40 it's great. Only $115 + tx.

I was just checking out my cz 455 with the same scope an hour ago, forgiving eye box, good eye relief, inexpensive, and decent glass to my terrible eyes.
When I went to shoot short range indoor matches, the lack of parallax adjustment on the nikon left it practically useless at the close range(10-15yards) match.
Did excellent at a mapleseed event with it though.
