Ruger Precision Rimfire. Using it at the range with kids, new shooters and for everyone else just for fun.

What optic under $600?

Yeah the leupold VX-freedom rimfire is definitely the way to go. I own 2. They’re great. They seem readily available right now.

I’ve owned the poor-tex crossfire II rimfire and the diamondback rimfire and neither is worth the box they shipped in. Absolute trash. I’ve had better experiences with Simmons rimfire than the vortex.

The leupold rimfire is a treat!

Occasionally can still find Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 - spoken of highly on Rimfire Central when they were being produced - not so sure if still made? I installed one on my CZ 452 Silhouette rifle - never found a reason to change. Very clear to look through - at least used to be 1/3 to 1/2 of the budget that you have set. I see that scope is still listed on Amazon.ca - at least one seller is in USA - do not know if they can ship to Canada or not - normally can not, but who knows with Amazon stuff???

This has been my experience as well. I use the Leupold Freedom VX Rimfire 3-9x40 Tri MOA reticle and love it. Reticle works great, glass is great, an excellent all round value for the price.

Are you planning on Rimfire prs shooting, or just fun stuff? The Vortex Venom is the best option in its price range right now to do the Rimfire prs shooting. About $700.

I have a vx3 4.5-14 40AO on my 452.
With a fine crosshair. Best scope I’ve have on a 22 for sure.
Got in on the EE for 500$ I believe.

Another vote for the VX-freedom 3-9x40 rimfire moa. Have one on my 22 and love it. Planning to get another for my 17 hmr.

^they are great scopes, I have one on this 16" 452. Great scope, I don't think I've used this gun since the photo was taken. lol

While I'm just getting it mounted, I recently bought a Burris FF E1 4.5-14x42 with their "Ballistic Plex" reticle, side focus. I've been wanting to try one of these for a LONG time, and finally have the right gun to put under it-my T1x. :) Anyhow, I've yet to zero, or shoot with it..but based on what I see, one might end-up on another rimfire before too long. REALLY nice glass, love the reticle.

Simmons 4x32 fixed power scope - excellent glass and eye relief
Will not add a tonne of weight to the rifle - you could get them for $60-$70 taxes in

I own four of these you would wonder why you didn't buy it sooner

Seeing as you have an RPR, I will say In the rimfire PRS shooting 'production class' ($500-700 scopes) Vortex and Athlon are the only real 2x competitors so far.. You really need something with exposed turrets that you can dail, and a reticle that has holdover with elevation and windage.

A coupe other brands, Riton and Element might have something worth noting.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question. I have never really shot with glass ever, but my kid is starting to suggest he'd like to try a scope. Nowhere near the quality of what you are discussing above, I do have a never used Bushnell Banner scope a friend gave me years ago that he bought in error as it is a black powder scope. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it does have a fairly heavy circle X reticle I think might be good for first-timers/learning. Would this be an appropriate scope for rimfire use?

The RPR is excluded from CRPS/ORPS production class, and would put you in open class, so no sense buying a production-class scope for it.

For sure, I was just stating the optics that are in the price range that he asked about. Vortex and Athlon rule it for that price range... other wise in open also Vortex and Athlon, but also USO, Minox, Burris and Nightforce are popular.

If you have facebook, here are some pics I took at the last match here in Ontario... www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=tyler.deer.7&set=a.10158443941212947

I bought one Simmons scope... new in the box... and it didn't work well at all. Never bought another one and never will.

The Hawke line of scopes has worked well for me on rim fires... and of course Leupold rim fire scopes.

Get a dedicated scope that isn't for black powder. It'll be more fare to yourself and your son. You can get just fine optics for a decent price. I wouldn't use that BP one for anything other than BP.

Good advice i suppose. I'm never going to shoot black powder, certainly not scoped: what is the difference in this scope? Is it just the reticle or is there a parallax difference, etc.

Thanks for the advice guys. I actually ended up ordering a Christensen Arms .22 Ranger and I decided to go with Swarovski Z3 36mm. I guess I upsold myself LOL.
