Ruger Precision Rimfire. Using it at the range with kids, new shooters and for everyone else just for fun.
What optic under $600?
Yeah the leupold VX-freedom rimfire is definitely the way to go. I own 2. They’re great. They seem readily available right now.
I’ve owned the poor-tex crossfire II rimfire and the diamondback rimfire and neither is worth the box they shipped in. Absolute trash. I’ve had better experiences with Simmons rimfire than the vortex.
The leupold rimfire is a treat!
Another vote for the VX-freedom 3-9x40 rimfire moa. Have one on my 22 and love it. Planning to get another for my 17 hmr.

Seeing as you have an RPR, I will say In the rimfire PRS shooting 'production class' ($500-700 scopes) Vortex and Athlon are the only real 2x competitors so far.. You really need something with exposed turrets that you can dail, and a reticle that has holdover with elevation and windage.
A coupe other brands, Riton and Element might have something worth noting.
The RPR is excluded from CRPS/ORPS production class, and would put you in open class, so no sense buying a production-class scope for it.
Not sure if this is the right place for this question. I have never really shot with glass ever, but my kid is starting to suggest he'd like to try a scope. Nowhere near the quality of what you are discussing above, I do have a never used Bushnell Banner scope a friend gave me years ago that he bought in error as it is a black powder scope. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it does have a fairly heavy circle X reticle I think might be good for first-timers/learning. Would this be an appropriate scope for rimfire use?
