RL-15 Powder turned white

I'd put money on corn cob media.

I tried to burn it, would only smoulder for a while then go out.

My bet, somebody returned some powder to the store and they just shook it and didn't look inside before it went back on the shelf.

Well that looks like the same stuff, never thought somebody would switch powder and take it back to store ?

Maybe Henry accidentally shipped you a bottle that was for display? That was never gunpowder of any kind.

Budget doesn't have a storefront, so I can't see why he would have display bottles? Seems odd to me.

Most places won't take powder returns for liability reasons. Looking at Budget's website, their return policy excludes powder, primers, and ammo.

This is a very odd situation...

Well going back must be a factory thing then ,
Or a shipping thing ??
No tumbler media like that ever been in my room , I have red coloured stuff only, never had any other Color .

Just got a email back from Alliant powders, they said the substance is not anything that would be found in there plant,
It is not an alliant product they said. That is something they don’t make at all.
So my guess it got switched along the travel route between the manufacture and budget shooter supply and my place ,
I have never checked powders, when I get them , but now I might start to !
I have some noble powder from about 1985 that is still good, so it’s not a storage problem.

This. Should have been a Styrofoam like seal on top of container mouth. I'm guessing no. Have you contacted Budget Shooters Supply?

If it was missing entirely that would certainly shed some light on this, but I'm not sure if it would help if it was present? With my bottle of RL17 I haven't thrown out the seal, and when you close the lid the seal sticks every time so it would be possible to THINK you're opening a new can even though you're not.

The seal sticks like said above, Im at a loss for what happened , only guessing at it was switched during transport ,
No I did not contact budget shooter , I don’t believe they would have done something like this
I know I did not put this stuff in the bottle and nobody else has access to my powder storage or reloading room.

You don't have any kids that reload? Remember drinking your parents Vodka and filling it back up with water? Lol

ha ha What a spin out thread!

the comment about the powder being 'returned' as the "wrong sort" , not checked, shook and replaced on shelf seems like only real thing that could of happened?

weird

I mean no disrespect OP, but how old are you?

I go down into my gun room almost every day, but I haven't loaded in months.
I'm 50 and couldn't say for sure what the last thing I did at the loading bench - months ago.
Used Powder from 6 years ago? If it wasn't labeled, I'd toss it. And I have tossed powder that I've inadvertently left in the Dillon powder throws and not labeled.

My dad died of Parkinsons when he was 77, but he showed signs of being forgetful of things he did or where he left things around 65 or so.

...point is, let's look at the likelihood that someone switched powder for corncob media somewhere in it's travels to your loading bench:

- At the manufacturer level from production to distributor: extremely unlikely
- From the distributor to the retailer: very highly unlikely
- From the retailer to you: highly unlikely

- Someone at your bench, maybe working without labels: likely
