Robarms XCR FAQ post

I am looking to attach a sling to my xcr-l I was looking at the fab defense bungee sling but not sure anyone have any experience with the product or any better suggestions

+1 on the MS3 sling. The XCR (18.6") barrel is pretty long for a single point only sling. The bungee makes it worse and and unless you're a really tall guy it'll be banging your feet and the ground. Magpul MS2 and MS3 slings are great because you can use single point for shooting and pistol transitions, and then easily clip it on the fore end for 2 point option for walking around out in the field, bending over and crouching.

Thanks a lot for the input I was worried about the bungee sling and only the one point for that excact reason I think I'm gonna go with the ms3

just picked up a used xcr, so far so good! just curious, is there something a guy can print off or show to the cops should they question me with it, alot of buddies have a hard time believing its non restricted, i can only imagine what the cops would say. also curious about the lar 10 round mags, any printable literature someone knows about? thanks

Nice choice in optics, it will serve you well. I ran one for sometime on mine. Have a great day shooting. Post up some pics in the general forum. I don't want to clutter the FAQ area with too much random chatter. Cheers.

What's the difference between the NEA and dlask stock adapter I'm not a fan of how the fast stock feels and looking to switch out

I have two XCR's, the M obviously in 7.62x51, and with the 18.5" barrel. and my L is in 7.62x39, with the 18.5" barrel.

I'm going to use this post to show them off and explain some "quirks" I have had over the past year of ownership for the M and 5 months for L. Hopefully my solutions and experience can help some others. the M has had close to 2500 rounds through it. and the L has close to 4000 now.

first the M, it is outfitted with a Vortex Razor HD 20x with MOA reticule, new rings are back ordered to remove the riser block. I run Magpul P mags, and it has a Atlas bipod, browning sling, Magpul AFG2, and Daniel Defense 1* offset rails with the stock Midwest flip up sights mounted on them. I am a horrible and un-steady shot at long ranges, so for me to say a grouping at X range, is a gross underestimate of the rifles capability. I find that I can hit a 12"x12" steel plate at 800M every time, once I find the sweet spot on the scope. I am confident I could take the rifle out to 1200M on a 18"x18" silhouette target, but have not tried it yet due to the Vortex Is a month old and I'm still getting used to it. Prior to it I had A Elcan Spectre Dr. 4x.

I found very quickly on that the barrel screw comes lose on both the L and M quite common so I keep a allen key with it and check periodically. I has also found that once in a blue moon the bolt assembly seems to jam closed, its breaks free with a almost full effort firm and forced pull on the charging handle. I still have not figured out what causes it. I also ran into a major problem when I changed to the Magpul P mags, sometime around 500-750 rounds from new. when firing, the magazines would commonly drop out. You had to hold them up with one hand and fire. I figured it had to do with the indent on the Magpuls instead of a hole on the ASCs for the catch to sit in, so I switched back to the ASC mags it came with but they was falling out also. after investigating I found that the stock magazine catch was only catching on a small corner and sitting at a angle when the mags where in, due to the play in the hole the ambidextrous mag release crosses the frame in. you can see the wear on this mag.

I first tried tightening it up and loosening it, but after that not solving it. I had a machinist build a wider and more pronounced mag release with a slight taper to account for the angle the release sits on, and it has not happened since. and I have also found that it just generally holds the mags firmer.

I have no photo of stock, but here is the upgraded one.

I first shot regular off the counter brands of .308 Winchester ammo, most commonly in federal or Winchester. I frequently but not overly concerning had a high number of jams. I then found 7.62x51 surplus, I bought it for the cost savings. But I have found that the gun actually likes it FAR more. it just feels smoother to fire, and it has not had a jam since, and its been about 2000 rounds through it. I also noticed the paint on the gas tube stopped turning white after firing rapidly for long periods of time. I'm assuming because the .308 burns significantly hotter than its surplus counterpart, and the rapid firing did not allow enough time for the hotter .308 gasses to cool.

Now the L, it is outfitted with a EOTech EXPS3-2, EOTech G33.STS Gen III Magnifier, Magpul AFG2, Magpul MS3 sling, $30 flashlight with mount, and stock Midwest flip up sights. I don't even try and be "accurate" with it hahaha but I was able to repeatably hit a 16"x16" gong at 400m firing rapidly. For the most part I like to set up stuff similar to IPSC and use it for that kind of shooting.

As for the "quirks", It has the same barrel screw periodically coming lose problem. And I have had endless problems with feeding and jamming. I am slowly working them out, and have come to the conclusion it is mostly the ASC (re-branded as RB) 10 round pistol mags. And the only flaw with the actual 7.62x39 setup I have, is the slide catch does not sit as high on the bolt assembly and there for if no mag is pushing up on it even a slight bump with let the bolt go. I noticed it happened with relatively more pronounced bumps even with a loaded/unloaded mag pushing up on it. which posed a major safety concern in my mind. I recently took the ASC mags apart to fix another problem (i will explain shortly) and I stretched the springs out a bit. The catch seems to be holding the slide now with a mag in under reasonable circumstances, but I still don't trust it. I will be having a machinist build me a more pronounced catch to replace the factory one.

XCR-M, which has never once let the bolt go due to a bump, and its been abused.

XCR-L, 7.62x39

Now I will elaborate on why I took the ASC mags apart. I found the rounds where not feeding and looking at the rounds I seen that when you had a full mag the rounds would dive and jam into the front of the magazine.

It's hard to see but this is what was happening.

and this.

here is two simulated shots to clarify.

and this.

So my first solution was to dremel that lip so the edge of the bullet would not catch on the lip (second image above) as this was most common.

this was the result

This help immensely, but then nose diving and jamming into the front of the magazine became the priority to fix as it still plagued me. I noticed that the bullets seemed to be caught at certain points, upon looking closer I seen that the ribs in the bend were catching in the groove at the back of the bullet. So i took a dremel and took them off. It helped a lot, but they still dive occasionally. and always dive if you put a magazine in with the bolt closed then try and open and close it to chamber a round.

here is what I mean, closest mag is modified.

My next step is to try and tighten up the follower by placing a shim (1/32" sheet metal) at the front on the mag. the heating and bending the front and rear leg on the follower slightly back so the bullets sit on a slight (less than 1/16") incline nose up. hopefully that will fix it for good.
