Which optic do you prefer?
Ooohhh man.... The 1000$ question!
From what I can tell you, it's a personal preference, as both optics are top of the line's optics in "their" category... I think they are the "BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK" around...
Because I could'nt make a choice between the two, I decided to buy the two... Sometimes, you've gotta make sacrifices in your wallet!
I know, I know... They are nothing compared to an Elcan SpecterDR, but I can easily achieve 1MOA with Factory American Eagle ammo on my AR-15 & XCR-L...
With nice custom loads with Hornady bullets, I'm sure I could achieve better results...
For me, they are the best thing for shooting Close Range (15m to 150m).
Farther than that, you've gotta be on a bipod/rest to get good shots in the 250-300 meters range.
If you wanna do the Service Rifles matches around or IPSC, with 200-300-400-500 meters range, you'll have to use a 3x magnifier available for both optics (Eotech & Aimpoint). They are pretty expensive though (~600-700$ CDN).
Before, I had an Eotech 552 on my AR-15 and was serving me pretty good!
When the XCR got into the equation in need of an optic, I've went reading around a lot of forums about these two optics comparison.
I can't choose who's the best between my Eotech 552 & the Aimpoint M4S.
A lot of people like the 65MOA + 1 MOA dot of an Eotech (as I do too) for CQB & mid range shooting... A lot of military/police like also the Aimpoint for his AWESOME battery life. One AA battery will last around 5 years (ALWAYS ON) on a Aimpoint M4S, compared to an Eotech 552, which will have to be closed everytime, so you don't drain your 2 AA batteries (which will last around 1 year, with normal usage).
They both have their advantages & disadvantages...
Nutnfancy on youtube, already made a great comparison video, that I suggest you to see. I must agree with most of the things he said:
Bottom line: I prefer the lighter weight, longer battery life, more precise aiming dot (2 MOA on my Aimpoint M4S), more versatile mounting options, faster controls, ruggedness, and ability to seal against moisture of the Aimpoint sights.
