Rook-Type Rifle Wanted - Who Can Make one and what is the best action

Have you slugged your bore to check diameter???? A lot of those original barrels have .220 bores and are fine with lead bullets but don't shoot jacketed bullets well at all.

I pulled a bullet from a .22 rimfire and pushed it down the barrel of my Parkerrifled .22 Hornet. Seems to measure .224-.225. Maybe I should start a new thread on this... :)

If I had a good 303 barrel that I could cut off the chamber end and rethread------------- I would possibly look at a 327 Federal chambering on a small frame martini. I have experience with the small frame martinis and I like the 30 Herret chambering as well on this action.

327 magnum would be a nice idea. You could then fire 32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R Magnum, and 32 ACP. I've toying with a custom rifle idea in 327 magnum.

I think you could make up a very snappy looking encore with fancy wood and an MGM barrel (Cdn company called nine35 apparently imports them) in any calibre you like ... they list 357 mag fwiw... I like the encore .. they shoot well and load pretty fast

I tried to go with the 327 federal but ran into extraction issues with the small rim ,would sometimes when loading the cartridge would pass the extractor .Ended up recutting the chamber to make a 30 carbine rimmed and problem solved (started with a 308 gain twist barrel as 002 on lead cast is not an issue ) but is an oddball ,didn't have a 32-20 reamer but did have 30 carbine

30 Carbine Rimmed is what essentially results when you fireform 32-20 brass in the factory 310 Cadet chamber (32-20 shoulder disappears). Instead of .308, I use .314 soft lead bullets when reloading, which is perfect for the Cadet's .316" factory bore. I actually resize my 32-20 brass in a 30 Carbine die. Now if only the world would catch on to what a fine cartridge 30 Carbine Rimmed would be! You wouldn't believe how stout a 32-20 or 30 Carbine handload can be! :)

Neck / Base / Bullet

30 Carbine: .331 / .354 / .308
32-20 WCF: .327 / .354 / .3125
310 Cadet: .323 / .350 / .314 to .316

here is some of my martinis and a 85 win .The shiny barreled ones are stainless and I havent decided if I want to cerakote them as blueing isn't an option
#1 from the top not really a rook type cartridge, 303 brit
#2, 17 A Bee
#3, 22-17 myra RF
#4, 30 car rimmed
#5, 5.6X50R Mag
#6 ,300 Rook
#7,25 Stevens CF

still a couple more ,but these are a bit heavy to class as rook .All are 22LR except the bare frame which is undecided .The top one is alarge frame Bonehill special conversion I picked up a few years ago as it was just interesting. These are all a bit different from each other .So many variations on the small frame

My gunsmith has a BSA Martini Cadet converted to 218 Bee, and it is a fine little rifle! He has many many toys, but that one is apparently going in his coffin! :)

I think I now want another Cadet in original configuration, fully refinished, and rebored to .357 magnum. Now that would be sweet.

Somebody mentioned the need for a scope mounting solution... I can tell you that the Cadet sights work great for me and I can hit anything within a 4 inch circle at 50 yards.

No not quite Mr Martini .I am still undecided on the empty frame ,as it is a thick sides .I still look for for the babies ,but I want derilict ones as nicer ones are hard to justify for projects and end up being saved.

I have figured out a scope mounting using a talley base which works on small and large frames .I wouldn't put one on a collectable martini as it does need 3 holes .When we do the barrels we leave a long enough straight shank to mount the base .it looks clean and not poged on like some weaver projects out there .

I don't know how to say this but, I do have more large frame martinis. My weak spot is martinis ,1885 win and wsl rifles
cheers Peter
