Rook-Type Rifle Wanted - Who Can Make one and what is the best action

Just curious because the Kurgan is on the hunt for 30 carbine Ruger number one.

What is the largest caliber you have put on the cadet actions? 357 Maximum a possibility?

I have seen a rather ugly 45/70 built on a greener shotgun.

On a small frame martini the largest case which I have seen used was a 225 Winchester. The shape of the case and length of the case becomes an issue as it has to slide down the loading ramp and then into the chamber. I like the Herret type case built on the 30-30 shortened cases. Lots of power and feeding is not an issue.

The Martini actions are very strong (I read 50k somewhere!). But the .30 Carbine is rimless and requires a special extractor. Other than Snapp's Gunshop in the US, I don't know who makes one.

From a list on Brownells website:

Snapp's Gunshop

although the Martini Forum of Gunboards would be somewhere to ask.

I really don't need 30 Carbine (though it would be nice), as I load modified 32-20 cases to greater velocity levels, with no ill effects on my Martini Cadet.

225 Winchester is a fine round...

40 gr (3 g) SP 4,020 ft/s (1,230 m/s) 1,436 ft·lbf (1,947 J)
50 gr (3 g) SP 3,768 ft/s (1,148 m/s) 1,577 ft·lbf (2,138 J)
55 gr (4 g) SP 3,643 ft/s (1,110 m/s) 1,621 ft·lbf (2,198 J)
60 gr (4 g) SP 3,428 ft/s (1,045 m/s) 1,566 ft·lbf (2,123 J)

My chum built a .223 on a Cadet action when he worked for a local gunsmith. The purchaser didn't like it and my chum bought it back from him. He had built an extractor to handle the rimless round.

I just came across an interesting project in a post on the Martini section of Rimfire Central.

Ambitious Martini project elsewhere.

Perusing the net searching for solutions for a subject that I will bring up later, I stumbled across this ambitious project by a skilled craftsman. It is titled "Martin a la Hoffman" and is a project of making a switch barrel Martini from a small frame and having several differing full barreled forends on hand for the fun.

See this thread and enjoy the prolific photographs and explanations of his fine workmanship. He even has some contact information tucked away in the article.

Now this is a real rookie. I just picked it up, in .22 K Hornet, with dies and a bucket of brass.
