Couple of shots of one of my MilMatch rifles. This one is unfired since it left the factory. The other has been lightly shot and was "mostly" restored from being sportered many years ago. If anyone has a line on a stamped 'early type' nosecap for a MkIII, I would about give a kidney for one...

Hi guys, wondering if you Ross guys can help. I have an M-10 that is marked G.H.G. which from what I understand as Home Guard designation.

The barrel is shortened and the stock is cut as well but all of it looks like it was done in factory and not as a sporter job. Does anyone know if these came out of the shop like this?

Extremely unlikely that a HG rifle sported like that came out of the factory in that configuration.

A 1910 Military Match rifle in .280 just sold in Switzers Auction for a total including commission and tax for over $26000. (Yes, three zeros).

Tiriaq, that was a bit of a shock to us all. I was watching it wondering when it was going to end. But there are only a small handful of them in private collections, and there were two different buyers who really wanted it. Looks like that one went to BC as well, not sure who it went to though.

The HG would have absolutely NOT come from factory like that. Too bad as they’re usually the cream of the MkIIIs condition wise.

Ok fair enough, I think I'm just trying to understand is if this was the original length as the muzzle has a flat crown.

The stock also attaches to the barrel (nose cap) with a very similar piece as most standard m-10s. Also, the bayonet lug would make no sense for a sporter.

The front sights are clearly wrong but this doesn't look like a civilian sporter.

Could this be more like a militia or Canadian ranger variant?

No, it was sported for use as a hunting rifle.
HG rifles tend to be either in fine, intact as made, condition or sported. Bore condition will depend on whether the shooters understood cleaning after firing corrosive ammunition.
