OK, I've seen literature, diagrams, old photographs, and small arms manuals, showing the sight hood situated both ways, ie. slant towards chamber, and slant towards muzzle.

I also just attended the Military Museum of PPCLI, KOCR, CH, LSH, and I observed about 8 Ross rifles, with about 50/50 each way. I know sometimes museums aren't that particular about stuff like that, but thought I would check anyway.

Does anyone have anything definitive to say and show which way the sight hood should go on?

Ross hood

Slanted at front (muzzle),square at rear. This is according to Ross Rifle Story .Ten different ways to describe what should be simple. Typical of Ross eh?
Whatcha got?

I've had the 1910 for a while. Mine's got the slant to the rear. I like the look better, but trying to determine if it's a big deal or not...
Everything here is either Canadian made or marked. Except the Sten. Still trying to locate a Long Branch CA.

Nice C8 Koldt - I'm on workup for Afghanistan right now and I've seen a few kicking around in that exact configuration.

I picked up 3 sequential plaques for the walls, as well. These may have been on parts drawers or some other type of bins drawers. Don't know, but thought they were a good keep sake and more "stuff" for the walls.

You're right, but I still think it looks better with the straight side to the front, the same as the PPCLI rifle above. I can't honestly think there would be an operational reason for it, ie. better sight picture, either way.

I still think it funny someone using a cross strap from a Sam Browne as a sling.

One would tend to think that the angle might be toward the back, given that the sight ring and base are that way, but I have it on good authority it should be to muzzle.
