Rossi Ranch Hand full-size stock G/B ~ UPDATE - Feb 15/2013

All he said to me last time we communicated (Saturday) was that ours weren't the only stocks held-up by the 10-day delay caused by the machine breaking.

He's got other commitments (stocks), & I haven't heard from him since. Hopefully, that's a good thing...

:)

He did say initially though, that he wanted deposits by Sept 1st so he could start the run the 1st week of Sept.

Given that it's half-way into the 3rd week, the 10-day delay just "expired" (so-to-speak).

Also take into consideration he (1 guy) has atleast 12 stocks to make/sand/fit/finish/& possibly some butt-pads for us.

He mentioned having to source some butt-plates also, not sure if he's throwing them in as a free bonus or they're for people that paid extra.

I have a feeling we'll be hearing from him soon... This weekend, I'm guessing.

:D

Yes, by all means don't put pressure on the stock maker to hurry-it-up.
I'd rather Rich to just work at a comfortable pace to get each one right.
Speed-up jobs can mess with the mind, and poor results can occur.

At least I can shoot my improved Ranch Hand for fun while I wait.:)

Teaser alert !!!

Got an email from Opuntia Lake Sports.

The butt-stock pattern is complete, but I am waiting for the right drill for the fore end tube.
The tooling I have on hand is more trouble than it's worth, for this job.
My bit is too short, so I ordered one in the correct size (and the same length) as the bottom one in pic.
Should be here next week. Production on butts should start this weekend, and fore ends when bit arrives.
The plastic plates (right) are $13 or $23 installed. The pads (left) are $16 or $26 installed.

Rich

Yeah. It goes from non-restricted to non-restricted. The USA has an issue with changing the stock on them, as they go from handgun to short-barrelled rifle, which they need a tax stamp for. Up here though, no big deal

well I know that much, sorry for the poor details in my last post...lol....

Is there a regulation that if the stock changes it needs to end up over 26.5"? How about replacing the existing stock with one of the same length but a better grip shape? Would that require a switch of classification? Or does anyone really know yet?

If you modify the stock you should modify it to be over the min length which is around 26"....it's stupid but even gluing a piece of rubber on the existing metal butt cap could be argued as a modification that being less then 26"(or whatever the mm measurement is) would be prohibited.
The fact that you are increasing the length is moot...it's just the way the regulation has been worded!
Dosen't make sense, but it doesn't have too....

That's what I thought...but wanted to check. A friend in a machine shop has offered to try and clone the first bit of the stocks mounting point out of a block of carbon fiber, then we could epoxy any stock style we wanted onto it, it just has to be over the legal length. Got it. Not sure if it will work or even ever get done, but it's fun to drink beer and fabricate neat stuff....and he has blocks of scrap material and such kicking around. At least enough to make a small mounting block I would think.
