round went off in magazine 1911

I'll weigh in here. About a week ago I had a kaboom with my RFB. Pics to follow (they're marooned on my iPhone). *snip*

Photobucket has an app that uploads pics right from your phone......

I'll go down to the gun room snap a pic or two and by the time I get back to the computer the pictures are loaded to photobucket. Edit and post the pics fairly quickly!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.....

Thats not an out of battery detonation, it's just a case failure. I've seen several over the years with 1911's with original unsupported chambers. The case blows down the mag well, trashes the mag, and may or may not split the grip panels. It's not generally dangerous except to your underwear if you have a nervous colon. ;)

A true out of battery, the case will blow out the ejection port and all around the base of the cartridge...you get more shrapnel, but less damage to the mag and bits and the pressure will take the easy way out (out the port)

racking out a live round and setting the primer off will have the lowest pressure, but if your one of the silly folk who like to try to catch the round your ejecting your gonna be picking some copper fragments out of your hand and fingers. Let them hit the ground and pick em up people...
