RRA Question

for me and mine I had to make sure the buffer was oiled with a sheen of oil, otherwise I experienced stoppages, usually the case spinning and coming back in.... like i was not getting enough bolt speed.

my .223's I could run dry as can be.... the 9mm seems to like to be run a little wet for some reason I cannot fathom. Other then that my gun has been very consistent and runs like a top both with my borrowed uzi mag and the RRA 10 round mags, bolt hold open works super with the rra mags.

what kind of buffer are you using in the 9mm.... a proper 9mm one or ??

Hey wicked Police,
I'll take that old out of date MP-5 of your hands :p

Nice project by the way. I had the chance to fire a 9mm AR about a month ago (one of the members on this site). It was a lot of fun.

I'm still gathering the pieces for my first AR rifle.
DPMS LR-308, Tactical Grip, RRA NM trigger, Zeiss quick release rings.

Currently debating Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50mm or Leupold 6.5-20x 50mm with varmint reticle (I like the wind deflection markings and the rang marks).
I don't want a "tactical scope". This is a range gun for me.

I just reread my post, it was not the buffer that needed oiling but the CARRIER/BOLT !!!

sorry was in the hospital yesterday and am still out of it a bit...

I think the 9mm buffers are solid ie: no rattle when shaken, take the one out of your colt 9mm and compare it..... 9mm buffers should be noticably heavier.

I've got about 500 rds through my 10.5, many as fast as I could pull the trigger on 10 rd mags (thanks again Mark/Questar).

Every round fed, went bang and ejected the same....perfectly.

I lube exclusively with lithium grease.

If I had to guess I'd be looking at the buffer first, then the carrier.

I think it's the one that came with the RRA pistol lower. So I'm assuming it is a proper one...
Is there any markings I should look for?

Thanks Wes!!!!

The 9mm buffers from RRA are black instead of the "greenish" colour of the .223/5.56 buffers. They are heavier. You bought the upper by itself and I have no record of you buying a lower from us so I don't know what you mated the upper to. It does sound a bit like you have it in a lower that may not have a 9mm buffer... that would mean the buffer is too light if that's in fact the situation.

If the lower is not a proper 9mm lower (or if it's a .223 lower that was converted, you need to make sure the parts have been properly changed... 9mm hammer, 9mm buffer... obviously you have a magwell adaptor otherwise the magazines wouldn't fit ;)).

If you're still having problems give me a call... you have my number :)

By the way... was speaking with Peter M. today and we were talking about you...

Ive put several K thru my colt 10.5: Ro634 never any jams ever (except when i tried a brass catcher)

mine flings the brass about 15-20 ft right and forward

if i do my job right i can hit clay birds at 75m unsupported

(clays are on the berm NOT flying..)

when i first put my 9mm together, i lubed it, and still it felt like i was dragging the charging handle through gravel. i sprayed the buffer and tube with HHS2000 by Wurth. now it is super smooth.

The difference in recoil may be attributable to excess gas left in the short gas tube.We see the problem all the time with shorty AR's.It seems that with the short tube it just can't bleed the gas quick enough in rapid strings/auto and may cause a problem we call bounce back. It's not a problem with piston driven weapons.
