Ruger 10/22 Competition

My Ruger 10/22 using SKgold gets 1/2" at hundred yards. Aguila second best with 1"
I only Changed firering pin and extractor with KIDD.
What 3 shots? Try 10 shots. My Target light with bx trigger, FF barrel, Boyd's stock barely can do 5/8" at 50. So I doubt a stock carbine with only firing pin and extractor can do 1/2" at 100. Let alone 1 inch.

Your 10/22 is now capable of conpeting with the very finest RF rifles on earth.

1/2” at 100 yards is incredible!

Or should I say unbelievable!?

I have exceptionally accurate bolt 22’s that i can regularly shoot 1” groups at 100 yards using match grade ammo. Not every time by any means.

I also own and have owned a certain number of stock and modified 10/22’s as well as clones by grey birch as an example.

Your claim is obviously BS.

You would need the Ruger 10/22 Custom Shop Competition model and proper Match ammo, although 'surprisingly' old go to CCI Stingers can shoot well ... try finding a new one in Canada. You might find a used one, but who would sell it? Not I ... lol

SK Biathalon and SK Long Range match ammo work well, but then you need to do your part, + have a good scope for PRS. There is a large number of 22 ammo, research and then experiment - 10 rd groups tell the tale ... lots of 22 junk. Use Match ammo: for accuracy + consistency

Wind always plays havoc with 22s past 100 yds, even 50. But thats the fun of PRS on windy days, once you are dialed in have at it

Once you find your best ammo/rifle match, try using a EC Tuner (about 300.00) ... you may even get tighter groups or find you already have the barrel harmonics for that rifle + ammo. Its surprising how a tuner can bring in groups on cheap 22s etc

My fav go to setup is a Bergara BMR bolt 22 with a match 18" barrel (mine is steel not carbon), Vortex Viper PST 5x25x50 Xmas tree illuminated scope, and SK LR or SK Biathalon ammo - both match ammo work well in mine. Not a cheap set up - about 900 for the rifle and 16-1800.00 for this scope ... I shopped around. You don't need to use high end scopes per se but good ones help, alot. .25 moa or smaller aiming dots can be game changers especially for 22s ...

There are several factory match 22s available, go with your budget and the best that fits you. Even build one. Research, read, learn, there's alot of data + info out there. Spend money ...

Thanks so much.
I'm looking for a new Ruger Competition now. Look forward to dialing it in..now I just need to locate one.
Appreciate your input / advice. Thank you !

I have two 10/22's. One is factory with a Timney trigger that is used for speed steel. Tried a McGowan match barrel but FTE issues did not meet the needs so the factory barrel went back on. Accuracy is about the same but it extracts with a variety of ammunition. Accuracy with a red dot scope is not an issue but 1" at 25 yards works. Thunderbolt, Blazer and CCI SV meet the needs for this event.
#2 was factory until a Dlash 0.20 barrel was obtained. With a KIDD trigger kit, a 6-24 Bushnell scope and a varmint laminate stock it remains a challenge to find the best ammunition for 100 metres.

I haven't seen a 10/22 with factory barrel come near 1/2" @ 50 but the one you got definitely has a chance. Ruger typically uses a pretty loose chamber which improves reliability at the cost of accuracy. My 16.5" Dlask has their sporter chamber and eats anything. Accuracy in good stocks/chassis was never better than 1" @ 50 and usually worse. It gets bulk ammo for steel targets now. A good match barrel from Kidd, VQ etc with a tight bentz style chamber will turn in far better groups but can be picky with ammo reliability wise. So if your factory barrel just isn't cutting it, I'd go straight to the best match barrel you can afford. In the meantime, have fun!

Thanks for everyone's input .
I bought the Ruger Competition Laminated stainless. Now the optics.. I know that's a whole different topic..lol Anyways I have
a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 XTR sitting in my safe and just bought a Burris FFII 4.5-14x42 AO on Gunnutz.
Looking at the Burris 1st . Have to see how it fits . May have to go shopping.

I went with a VX-FREEDOM 3-9X33 EFR FINE DUPLEX for the sake of adjustable parallax. I also had the reticle changed to the MOA one. It’s fantastic and super clear. I’ve shot it out to 100 yards using the reticle with no issue. Mostly I use it for 25 yards and 50 yards.

I’d likely go with the Burris for the AO.
