Just being a noob in general about firearms, started out with an SKS (on the advice of many) and a survival .22 AR-7... I feel like I have to mention Im a noob in every other post bc everyone on here knows so much.

Anywayyy, I have been looking into my next firearm and there isn't really anything better than a Ruger 10/22 is there? Cheap, reliable, you can customize the hell out of it... problem is how hard they are to find in Canada. The guy in Le Baron told me today the demand is so high in the USA they don't have any left to ship up here. When they do get a few they are gone in a day... You can see most of the online stores have them out of stock as well. Why is this exactly? Its a great gun, great price sure. The American public may be in a firearm buying frenzy but why have they picked the Ruger 10/22 to buy up? Then again Im sure this isn't the only firearm that's hard to keep on the shelf, just the only one Ive had this experience with. Why cant Ruger ramp up production?

Lastly, anyone know of a store online who has them in stock? Or a store in the Ottawa area, I mean there are really only 3 places that I know of, Sail, Le Baron, and Sports Action.

You're in luck. Reliable Gun in Vancouver just got a new shipment in today of some 10/22's. I suggest you contact them quick as they have a f****** smoking deal on the VLEH at $399. If only I didn't buy new hunting gear over the weekend... :(

You have to know where to look. I got one from italian gun store. Didn't wait amd took a week to get. $249.99 No price gougeing!
But yes box stores are sold out!

Or you could get a marlin model 60/795 and have a very accurate semi 22lr that doesnt need aftermarket parts to work right or be accurate. They are also cheaper at under $200 and some can be had for $150

It's because of all the after-market stocks that fit them.

However, more and more stocks are being made for other semis as well.
Supporting dealer Hical has "tactical" stocks now for the Remington 597 that are actually pretty neat.
Just another "AR-15" style .22, but not as flimsy as the Mossberg 715t, and not restricted (!?) like other "tactical" .22s

But the 10/22 has tons of stock options (pun intended)...including a Thompson and even a bull pup (not allowed in Harper-land)...

Yeah the Mossberg was something I was considering but really I dont want anything that cheap... I was just gonna go with a regular 10/22.... or MAYBE the Sr 22...

If you want custom.... Skip the buy then buy parts and just buy from Dlask arms... You save money and get it all done and ready to go I got him to do a custom gun and a trigger job and wow it shoots nice makes the factory guns look like rubbish... Now if you want a target gun or a hunting gun there is a big difference on barrel ect as bull as weight.

There is allot of things you can do with a 10/22 I suggest you make a list of what you want it for then buy that because it gets expensive will all the custom parts as they add up slowly. I upgraded the trigger parts on a factory gun it cost 300 bucks by the time I was done I had Joe at Dlask arms do a trigger job on a factory trigger for 80 bucks and it was better then the parts for allot more... So if you know what you want then shop around first you can save allot of money in the long run.

The SR 22 is not as good as the 10/22 it wobbles around a lot I was suprized by the difference in quality (the way the parts fit) The Remington 597 is a better rifle but with plastic only magazines (25 rounds) they will wear out most likely. So there are draw backs to all the rifles out there...

So in the end do ppl think its better to get a regular ruger 10/22 and get a tactical stock as an add-on after, rather than buying the sr 22 outright?

Hey K-Roc~don't want to disturb this apple cart of Ruger 10/22 love...but you skimmed right over HTH's suggestion of the Marlin 60 and Marlin 795. It's a good suggestion. I bought a new 10/22 years ago, shot it maybe 200-300 rounds through it and then promptly sold it. It was such a mediocre shooter, with such a terrible trigger, that it put me off owning a .22lr semi for some time. I got a chance to shoot a Marlin 795, soon after, that cost my buddy $100 less than my 10/22 and I was sold. Got one as soon as I could and never looked back. I'll never own another 10/22, but am considering a second Marlin semi.

I bought the SR22 and am completely happy with it. I looked at several variations of the 10/22 and none of them really appealed to me. The SR was what I wanted in style so buying a base model and accessorizing it to get essentially what the SR is made no sense.

^ Everyone I know who has the Marlin is very happy with it. I have several family members with Remington 597's as well and no one has any complaints. There is a newer Ruger copy out there as well, Rock Island Armoury I think, makes them. Supposedly all steel, heavier birch stock and roughly the same price as the Ruger. Was it Epps who was stocking them? I can't remember.

VLEH for $399??? This is $180 below MSRP! You are lucky guys!

In all honesty I have been going back and forth on my next firearm, I didn't know as much when I bought my first two and an SKS seemed like a no brainier, same with my other Henry survival rifle... now I know more and its harder to decide haha. I wanted a tactical rim fire but I would have been ok with a classic 10/22 with an option to change the stock later. I guess I had blinders on in regards to the ruger 10/22 s ... how is the Remington 597 VTR? I dont want to end up with a low end firearm that just looks cool. In the end I would rather have a classic 10/22 that works really well and is easy to clean. I saw some videos of someone cleaning the cheap tactical mossberg, that TOTALLY put me off that one forever.

The only reason why Id get a 597 is if we could get a center balanced rifle system. Wicked bullpup design.
Going with the axiom stock and a ligjt barrel for now.
