Awhile back on some other thread I commented that the 10/22 is the "Chinese Food" of the firearm world; "As soon as you buy one, you think; why did I do that... and soon after selling one, you invariably think; I need another one!"

I have been downsizing my firearms for a couple years and have streamlined down to where the guns that don't make the cut are harder to let go... in spite of this, and having purged myself of all 10/22's and custom rifles based on the 10/22 platform, I recently caved in again. My failure was somewhat provoked by the mountain of 10/22 magazines, assorted custom parts and cases of LR ammo that can't possibly be consumed by my bolt action rifles (too slow)...

So, long story, longer... I put together another 10/22 platform rifle... The premise of this rifle, was to be a compact, light"ish" rifle for plinking and running through ammo... accuracy is taking a backseat to these criteria, but I will endeavor to tune the rifle for the best possible accuracy.

I think my main two criteria have been met... as for accuracy, the range trip is still a week or so away...

Build;

- Dlask DAR22 receiver
- Dlask machined bolt
- Rimfire Tech Charging handle and decelerator spring
- Kidd Single Stage trigger group
- Kidd Light-Weight 16" barrel
- Boyd's Walnut Rimfire Hunter stock @ 13 1/4" LOP
- Dura Sight Z2 QD rings
- Leupold VX-1 4-12X40mm

That is a very nice looking rig, I just sold my 10/22 but I don't think I will want another. But the piece you put together almost makes me want something like that... almost.

That's a beauty rig. I also just recently sold off my 10/22, accessories and ammo stash to buy a deer gun. I got the deer gun but still craved the .22 cheap plinking so I went cheaper and got a Savage 64. With only a 10 round magazine in the 64 I don't seem to burn through the ammo like I did with the 10/22 w/25 round magazines but I still miss it.

What does that weigh?

Any significant weight savings with the short barrel?

The barrel is a full 16 1/4"... it is an aluminum with stainless liner and breech... weighs only 20 ounces... will have to test at the range to see whether or not it can shoot... but I expect it to... I have had a couple dozen Kidd barrels over the years and have never had a bad one.

Finally got to the range today with my youngest daughter. I sighted in this Dlask/Kidd build with a Leupold VX-1 4-12X40mm mounted. Fired a total of eight five-shot groups @ 50 meters, all groups were in the 1/2" range... only tried CCI SV'S... function was perfect. There is a weird feeling in the action at the shot, I think because I am so used to heavier bench rigs... there will be more tuning and ammo testing, but for this light hunter/plinker 1/2" is MOGH... I am sure I can get that down somewhat.

My daughter had a good time with her "Pink-Build"... she is really perfecting her shooting form...

It's called "posing for a picture with a rifle "proved" clear... her finger is never in the guard except for when shooting, or in this case "posing"...

what i was taught was to always assume a firearm is loaded and to ALWAYS keep the finger out of the trigger guard except when aimed at a target which you want to shoot... posing for a picture was not considered an exception to the rule.

but to each their own, i guess....

You don't have to "assume" it is loaded when you just proved it safe 5 seconds before the picture. But, it is a good policy to maintain safe practices... for the purpose of the thread though... I think we can move along.

Good looking setup Hoytcanon. Great shooting by your daughter. nice tradition to pass on.
To all the picture nazis: you can see the finger in the trigger guard but cannot see the action is open?
