never, not from ruger atleast. they were developing it, but i think that project got mothballed. given the extraction problems that they were having with the 10/22M (ever wonder whey they only made the 10/22M in such limited numbers!), ruger ditched the 10/17. however, the aftermarket did step in, if you want a non-ruger 10/17 (uh, did that make any sense to you?) look up magnum research, or volquartsen. keep in mind that the small arms manufacturers command a premium price.
an alternative would be a 96/17. it would be much cheaper, and more reliable than an a semi-auto. nice quick follow up shots, the lever throw is 54 degrees. another plus is you still get the 9 shot rotary magazine instead of a single stack offered in most other 17HMRs.
