Ruger 17-22?

never, not from ruger atleast. they were developing it, but i think that project got mothballed. given the extraction problems that they were having with the 10/22M (ever wonder whey they only made the 10/22M in such limited numbers!), ruger ditched the 10/17. however, the aftermarket did step in, if you want a non-ruger 10/17 (uh, did that make any sense to you?) look up magnum research, or volquartsen. keep in mind that the small arms manufacturers command a premium price.

an alternative would be a 96/17. it would be much cheaper, and more reliable than an a semi-auto. nice quick follow up shots, the lever throw is 54 degrees. another plus is you still get the 9 shot rotary magazine instead of a single stack offered in most other 17HMRs.

good luck.

I have yet to have a jam with good ammo in my 10-22 put cheap crap in it and it won't feed properly but I don't know why anyone would buy budget 22 ammo when it is so cheap in the first place.

I'd buy a ruger lever if it weren't soo ugly looking.

Both 10/17 and 10/22mags were discontinued

The bolt in the 22 mag is the weak link. It breaks causing the clip to be damaged as well. Ruger had to replace too many guns and was losing too much money.

As with the 10/22 LR they were having problems with extraction, which could easily have been fixed by going with a extractor like the VQ Exact Edge Extractor. Normal SOP ! They came up with a spring loaded quide?/extraction helper? that they placed on the inboard side of the bolt. The addition of this guide? weakened the integrity of the bolt and caused failures right in the area of that added guide. A chunk of the bolt would break off right at the area machined into the face to accomodate that guide.
Ruger was informed of the problem and ignored the recommendation to revert back to the single extractor and to improve the extractor design.
