Ruger 77/30-30

What would it take to start a campaign to have Ruger build a 30-30 on the 77/44/357/22 auction.
Bolt action, rotary magazine, 20" bbl at six pounds, what a thought.

I now have a 77/44 thanks to philthygeezer as well as a 77/22 and a 77/22 Hornet. Looking at the action, magazine and how they work with rimmed cartridges I would like to see one chambered for a 30 calibre cartridge or how about the 7-30 Waters now that would be interesting.

What are your thoughts.

Bolt-action 30-30's are quite intriguing; the Stevens 325C developed a very decent "cult following" indeed.

A bolt-action 30-30 would have been even more popular before the advent of the "polymer-point" Leverevolution ammunition.

The action in not quite ling enough for the 30-30, but how about a short version based on the 444 case shortened and necked down.

Another thought for the 357 version would be the 256 Winchester that would be easy as the case is a necked down 357.

The 357 and 44 as well as 22RF and Hornet are all rimmed cases. Ruger has it all figured out with their rotary magazine so using it for the 30-30 would work.

Most likely Ruger would build it on the 77 Mk ll action with no detachable magazine. All the detachable magazine rifles that Ruger produces are for lower pressure cartridges. I think 30-30 would be over the threshold both in length and pressure.

It just came to me, the 30 Harrett would be a great round.
Think of it, the 77/30 Herrett, or the 77/357 Herrett the combinations would be endless.

That was only to screw a different barrel on a standard action. If Ruger needed to design and build a rotary magazine as well, I imaging it would be a whole lot more than just a run of 250.

Not to mention that Ruger is too busy right now trying to fill back orders to likely even consider this as an option.

I think it is a good idea, lots of folks like the cartridge,....myself I've been after ruger to make the model 77 in a 32 pistol calibre such as the .32 H&R mag or .327 Federal cartridge....

I have one in .357 mag & love it! It is fun to shoot, light weight, great for small game, varmints & deer within 80 yds or so with the right ammo, so sure, why not something in the 30 calibre???

A 30-30 would be a better chambering in a rifle. The 30 Herrett only exists because Steve Herrett found that the 30-30 is so inefficient in the TC Contender length barrels.

30 carbine would be a better fit for the tiny Ruger action.

20 or so years ago I played with a scoped 10 inch barreled TC Contender in 32-20 but with a .308 bore. At pressure levels above what old revolvers could handle it was a capable little package with 110 gr Hornady short jackets, Speer plinkers and spire points. and it would no doubt fit the Ruger action and mag AOL restrictions.
