Good to hear a positive report on the deer! a 158 grain @ 1800 fps or whatever it is will sting I guess
158gr factory loads were 1850fps
180gr factory loads were 1600fps
(In my 77/357)
The deer was with a 180gr Federal load.

Until you specifically develop a load for your rifle, not pistol, you're pissing in the wind. I would search up past issues of Handloader magazine. I have a feeling that either Brian Pearce or Mike Venturino must have written articles on reloading the 357 for rifles, and maybe (if you're lucky) they will have included the Ruger (though any article you find is more likely to have been written for lever guns). Then you can specifically load for your rifle and assess from there. Shooting handloads developed for one firearm in another and hoping for some useful data is pretty optimistic.
I have a 77/44 and what made a significant improvement to mine was the installation of a Volquartsen sear. It took the trigger pull from a very creepy 6lbs. to 3lbs. with almost zero creep. If you are going to use yours without a scope I'd suggest replacing the factory rear with a Skinner peep sight.Just ordered one of these from Irun guns. Thought I'd bump the thread to see who else is playing with one??

Barrel mount. Slips easily into the dovetail. Great set up and didn't require changing the factory front. Are you referring to the barrel mount, or do they have a receiver mount peep too?
