hi guys, i just got back from shooting the ruger 77/44. although i can shoot what ever i want because my range is in my front yard. :D but it shot very well! very accurate about 2 inch a 107 yards, and it didn't have very much recoil! i would say a little more then a 223, i was shooting cci blazers. i also bought some 44 spls and they are a dream to shoot! no recoil at all and and pretty accurate! i would have to give this gun a 9 out of 10 for likeability! people say "oh i just use that 06 for every thing" but i find this gun very usefull for every in NA! with the 44 spls you can hunt small game like rabbits and grouse(with neck shots) but if you load up some 44 mags you can take any animal you can dream of! under 200 yards that is. i also pick up a box of barnes 225 gr solid copper HP rounds and did a just test! it did out standing. went through 4 jugs and landed in the 5th! im am very excited to go deer hunting with this and maybe get the big boy in my pic!:p
thanks!

I recently picked up one in blued/walnut, but haven't had the chance to shoot it yet. I'm pretty anxious to try it out. I still want to find a 99/44 Deerfield.

When you are ready to roll your own the 270 gr Speer are incredible in the 77-44 and with litt'e gun you will pump a mighty load, if i may politely, i would advise to keep the 44 mag inside a 100 metres, i hate earing that somebody lost a super big buck... My 0.02 cents. JP.

44 Magnums - great pistol cartridge - in a light rifle nice gun to pack, excellent to about 100 yards on deer... if you can place the shot... but if a nice one steps out at 250 yards you will wish you had your scoped 243/308/etc.

I also shoot & have 2 rifles in the .44 mag chambering. We must remember they are still a "Pistol cartridge" vs a rifle cartridge, therefore 125 yd shot on an amimal should be tops, with the heaviest magnum powder loads.

Like stated above, use a rifle cartridge gun if you want distance shooting.
Lots of folks brag about those 400-500 shots on game, but it is it right to wound an animal & let it run of to die a horrible death? I don't think anyone needs the meat that bad these days!

Have fun with your new gun, even on far-out targets, but when it comes to hunting, close up is always better....

I recently bought this Ruger like yours, but in .357 & it too is a fun gun to shoot & reload for.

I like it so much, I think my next one will be that .44 mag like yours. Another nice thing about it, is the rifling twist is 1 in 20" which stabilizes the heavier bullets.....

X2 on the .270 grain Speer bullets. I put mine over a max load of H-110. From the bench they WILL get your attention. :)

My only complaint with the 77/44 was the trigger pull. The installation of a Volquartsen sear improved it significantly.

Just cant wait to get a shot at one of those 77-357, it is a priority buy as soon they are here... JP.

I like my stainless/synthetic 77/44. Don't understand why they aren't more common.

i agree, they are awsome rifles! i hunt up north for deer and moose. max range of 125 yards. mostly 75 yard shots. everyone that hunts up there has a big 300 win mag or 30-06 that weighs 10 pounds!! this gun would be great up in the brush only weighs 5.7 pounds and shoots like a dream!

I had one for years, pretty little rifle, lots of power in a compact platform.
Shot dear and bear with it.
No problem.
BUT! I tried everything, and I mean everything I coul to make it shoot 240's inside 3.5-4" at 100, but no dice!
Very dissappointed in the accuracy!
If it shot better, I would still have it.

Hope to get the 77/357 to try.
But I have heard bad things about thier accuracy!
We will see, I geuss.

At 100 or so yards, that's not bad at all as far as I'm concerned. If you can keep all your shots within a dinner plate sized target, deer boiler room should be no problem....

I don't put too much stock into all the bunk about trying to put all the bullets
into the same hole at "the range", although it is a good challenge. Hunting is a whole different game.

If I get 3-4" groups with my .357, hunting deer within range & I do my part, I'd be happy.....

I put more thought into the right load, bullet type & weight than I do group size.....JMHO.

Those rifles have fast twist, they perform excelent whit heavier bullets a 270 speer push at 1800 fps will give a 1.5 moa rifle the OAL in those rifle is critical, the lands are far in the barrel so the longer to fit the magazine will improve drasticly the accuracy the OAl of my pet load 270 gr is 1.675 inch fit the mag without FTF...
