Ruger 77 Hawkeye, Stainless Laminate vs Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather

IMO no comparison. The Winchester is far lighter (real world weights has a Ruger Laminate in nearly a pound heavier) and the Winchester is a smoother, nicer rifle with a better trigger. The Winchester is also more refined in appearance.
The one thing I don't appreciate is a 26" barrel on a .338 and with the flutes you are really stuck with it.

the actual trigger of the Hawkeye called the LC6 is defintely better than the Winchester model 70.

for the rest it s personnal preference plastic or plywood in multiple layers ...

They both have excellent triggers. Rugers used to have poor triggers but they have really stepped up in that department. I would rate the triggers as equal, both about as good as a factory trigger on a mass produced rifle is really going to get. The Ruger will be heavier, but the barrel profile and a laminate stock will do that. Both actions are smooth, I think Rugers just feel a little more precise when cycling the bolt. Both have awesome (almost identical) safety system. Both are really great hunting rifles and you would be happy with either.

Huge M7o fan here. I own a few and hunt mainly with my Leeper built M7o 3o-o6, but I don't think the Slooshark1 can go wrong with either. A 26" 338WM is a non-starter for me. I have owned a few M77s and they are very good rifles, IME. A Ruger cut to 22" in a McMillan would be a very good do-it-all rifle.

Funny sig, BTW. ;)

I owned a Ruger 77 Hawkeye and a newer model 70 my preference was the Winchester for action smoothness and accuracy, I think the Ruger would take more abuse, both are great rifles, there is a spot in my gun safe for a 338 and it will most likely be a Winchester.

I own both new Win and Ruger, and to my tastes, Ruger ahead by a smidge. Both are absolutely great, so either way you'll be happy. I prefer Ruger's excellent integral, and free, rings / mounts as well as the Ruger's one piece bolt (current M70's handle is pressed on, was news to me as well). I prefer the action cycling feel of my Ruger over my Winchester as well, and greatly prefer the floorplate release, the best in the business. Handle both, you'll end up happy either way one will just "do" it for you a bit better.

Thanks. I ordered a Model 70 but it might take 6 months to a year for it to come in. I didn't know about the bolt handle being pressed on. That's kind of disappointing.
