ruger 99 ,44 mag semi

Nice find! Very cool little carbines, seems to be quite a demand for these. I picked mine up new a while back. I use the data in the Hornady Handbook and found that W296 and 240gr bullets work pretty good at around 1800 fps muzzle speed. Deer slayer.

I've loaded for 2 of these. The no mus no fus load I use is a BDX 240 JSP and WW 296. You want something clean burning. I settled on 21.7 gr. I think that is a Sierra accuracy load.

Powder Grains Velocity Ft. lbs.
Accuracy Load 296 21.7 1600 1364
Hunting Load 296 24.0 1750 1632

Ken Waters did a article on it as well. See Pet Loads or July-August Handloader magazine # 104

Personally I didn't see the need to go to max loads, even at 21.7 it barks a bit.

Interesting rifle, they do seem to keep going up in value. My cousin paid $350 for his, and several years later my nephew paid $600 for a pretty nice one. When they approach the price of a 77/44 or a '92 I draw the line. Now a nice Ruger 96, well, for that I'd pay up.
