Ruger American Ranch rifle, mag conversion ..........sticky pls

So I have a Ruger American Ranch in 223. It came with the AR style pinned mag. Would like to convert it to a Ruger Flush mag. Contacted Gravel with the serial number and what I would like and they seem to have no idea. Has an anyone done this conversion and if so do you have a part number or something for the max well I need?
Thanks

Refer to post #28 in this thread.

I have an AR Ranch that I run .223 rotarys in no problem. Love the flush fit!
All you need is the stock module from any flush fit/rotary predator or compact stock and your magazine and your golden.
Tell Gravel you have a newer compact in .308win.

The rotary mags could care less if your bolt is milled for the STANAG mags or not as the bottom bolt lug catches the rim of the cartridge to push it in the chamber.

Ok thanks for the info. I will try them again. Just thinking I also just purchased an American Preditor in 308. Is the mag well in it what I would need?

I’m kind of confused here. I have a 308 ranch. But my serial number has the dash in it. My bolt is not scalloped. But my rifle does have the removable mag piece in it. I currently run a 450 bushmaster mag. It only holds 3 rounds and doesn’t fit flush. But I find it to be far more reliable and much tougher than the flimsy rotary mag. But I would love to go AICS if possible

AICS module should allow you to run AI mags in your .308 no problem.
“Scalloping” or milling of the bolt is only providing the needed clearance for the models that run STANAG magazines.

I didn't shoot it enough with the Mini-30 mag to remember how well they worked.

The XCR pistol mags were nice for the extra capacity but I ended up with multiple layers of aluminum tape on the ends of the mags to get them to fit well enough to feed when the mags were full. Even then, it required a fair bit of force and speed to get consistent feeding.

The AK mags give up capacity but they feed sooooo much better than STANAG. They're also reasonably cheap and available, unlike Mini-30 mags. They also don't like to be seated with the bolt closed. Looks like it's related to either the width or length of the feed lips but it doesn't really bother me.

The AK mags are my preference.

Speaking as a guy who had a dozen or so Mini30 mags that date back to the good old days, the original Ruger American that uses those is the perfect utility rifle. AR-style mags are one of the biggest PITA's in shooting IMHO, way too many fitment and feeding problems in way too many guns; see the post immediately above this one. AK mags? I don't have a clue, never tried them. Even my favourite mag style, the AICS, is problematic in the American due to the way that access to the rear stock bolt is blocked by the mag release.

But the original Mini30 mags...in my single example, at least...fit and feed with 100% reliability. I have read a few complaints about the "difficulty" some folks seem to experience with seating the mag in the rifle. But it takes about 15 seconds to master this difficult task and from there on, you're golden.

Not that too many people would want to go this way but you can use the Mini 30 magazine well in a 223 ranch rifle to use Mini 14 5rd mags if you want a flusher fitting mag in the 223 rifle.
