A topic that much comes up, but little info is readly available on. You will find hints on google page 2 and rumours galore.

For those that do not know, the ruger American particularly the "ranch" version has magazine conversion kits. Your options are

-Proprietary ruger plastic mag
-Ar15 mag
-AICS Mag
-mini30 mag.

So for CGN I give you the mag conversion guide.

conversion kits are $19 USD direct from ruger, and they ship to canada, I confirmed this as of 17 aug 2021, you do need to provide your serial number to order the part.

First question: is my ruger american compatible?

answer: Every rifle will take the kit, even those that cannot feed off them. to determine if your rifle will feed off the mag you can start with the serial number

If the serial number has a dash in it... sorry about your luck, your gun is incompatible.

Anything with the first 4 numbers 6902 or higher (6903, 6904 etc) should be compatible.

But to be sure regardless of serial number you have to check the bolt to be 100%sure.
The bolt needs to be scalloped (as indicated with the red circle vs the older bolts) to be able to use magazines other then the floor plate or proprietary plastic ones.

After that the biggest choice is choosing what mags you want to use.

The only land mine in this is for the .450 bushmaster. yes you can use Ar15 magazines but you need a different follower. fear not they are commonly available on Ebay and the like for a few bucks as they are 3d printed regularly. And for those with a 3d printer its even easier.

I will post installation videos of my own when mine arrive

for now this one will do

Thanks maybe I’ll see if they can see me up for the ruger mag. I don’t care if
It sticks out a wee bit but the AR mags just get in the way when hunting.

Didn't want to spend the time or money hunting for Mini 30 mags when I had 7.62x39 AR mags at home already. Got the parts from Snapshots, the Canadian Ruger warranty people. $52.50 shipped.

Literally, 2 bolts and 3 minutes to change the Mini 30 insert for the AR one. Feeds dummies properly, taking it to the range today.

Sent them this pic and my serial number:

Please advise where you ordered it from. Ruger told me to contact some place in QB who didn't respond - why the heck can't they just mail it to me??

Mine (a .308 predator) has the removable magwell, and am considering a mag conversion if I find a place to shoot at distance. For hunting and sighting in, I'm fine with the 3 rd flush mount as nothing snags on branches or hits the table, but AR mags look so much better. Debating getting a muzzle brake, more for aesthetics and protecting the crown then recoil management (35$)

From what I read as well is they still work without the scallop. When I took my bolt apart, it's just a tube so unless they changed the process for later models?

I don't know about the .308 sized mag well swaps at all.

Location Snap Shots Inc. is the Canadian Ruger warranty depot and where I got my parts from. Communications with them via email were excellent.

Also curious about the above mag swap in the 7.62x39. The mini 30 mag is great, and actually designed for the cartridge, other than 10rds would be nice, but it would also be nice to have a full ar mag well for support too. Picked one up on the weekend.... man a person doesn't get much for the $$ anymore... what a marvel of modern mass production hahaha.... its a $500 gun at most.
Atleast it fires both saami/cip spec cartridges. My cz really struggled with misfires on north American ammo/sized brass due to head space issues. The firing pin/spring is mega robust on this thing. Will have to figure out some bolt disassembly tool, probably just a flat tapered wedge to free up the spring tension. Definitely won't feel bad running surpluss through it.

There was a 223 version with the mini 30 magwell in it on the ee last week

So if you have unused mini14 mags, looks like you can repurposed them too with the mini magwell.

You could always buy the correct single stack AR15 pattern mags for the 450 from remington or bushmaster. They are actually stamped with the Caliber and have feed lips that will not allow them to hold even a single round of 223/556

Good thread!
Was looking for AR style magwell for Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39, to be able to use C-Products XCR-L micro pistol 7.62x39 10r mags.
A few updates:

- Snapshotsguns is no longer Canadian distributor for Ruger.
- Contacted Ruger and was directed to contact current Canadian parts distributor:
Gravel Agency Inc
Phone: 1.866.662.4869

Email: csr@gravelagency.com
- When contact them, that's enough to provide first 4 digits serial # of RAR.
- AR style magwell part #DBA30453-FDE.
- Currently $34.66 before shipping and tax.
- Video just for example: 7.62x39 Ruger American Ranch with AR15 Magazines

Ruger and snapshot won't sell it to me because of an old serial/bolt but see online people still have it work (as it should...)

Failing this, i'm going to have to design and 3D print my own mag well for my RAP. I dont see the flush 3Rd plastic holding up for many deer seasons to come...
