I'm looking for a .22lr bolt gun. Anyone own/shot both?

I realize there are many models of the Mark II but in general which is more accurate?

I sure like the Idea of 10/22 magazines also.

Own the Savage MK II heavy barrel. I love that little thing. good precision out of the box, even with bulk ammo. Never tried the Ruger tho, but I definetly never ever regretted the Savage... event got the 17HMR variant !

I have both and the MkII Tr is more accurate. and overall better gun. I did have to upgrade the trigger on the MkII simply because the savage accujunk is crap.

I now have a boyds stock on the RMR, It did improve the ergos and make it a bit more fun to shoot.

I had feed issues with the RMR with some type of ammo. the MKII feed everything.

I wanted to get rid of the RMR but the wife likes it, Thats the only reason its still in the safe. Might order the timney trigger for it at some point.

I own a Savage MK2 FV didnt feel the need for another one after shooting. Great accuracy even with bulk Federal 525. Shot toonie size grouping with Remington Yellow Jacket @ 100m

Its still in the original stock, with a cheek rest

No problems with magazines 5 or 10 capacity. Buy a bunch and your good to go

I have a savage, VERY accurate gun out of the box, I bought a 10 magazine, it sucked, I have tried shaping it a little better, it seems to feed good now.

I was thinking Ruger since I thought there were more problems with the savage but now I'm veering towards the Savage.

Thanks for the input!

DILLIGAF! That TR is sweet!

I started with a BV mark ii and sold it to fund a TR. Both are tack drivers. I did have issues with one mag, you have to crimp them in a little if they won't hold bullets. TR has functioned flawless not one FTF or fte.I like the Boyds stock and large bolt, well worth the money.

I don't like the savages I have owned a handful. The action is obscenely long when there is no need for it. The action is easy to bend with minimal tq on the action screws, feels cheap and none of mine were all that accurate.
I went with cz's better built more accurate. My gf has a rar and it doesn't feel cheap at all, action is strong, uses 10/22 mags, not a pencil barrel but not a heavy barrel either. Kind of like the marlin shorter barrel. Accuracy is depending on what cheap ammo used ~1" at 50 yards bulk packs are less accurate.

I too will add a vote for the Savage. I have a plan Jane MKIIF (standard weight barrel) and I too can get great groups at 100y. Sometimes it gets quite boring shooting so good so regularly.

I have 5 mags for it and I've never had an issue with them (other then almost loosing one in the snow two weeks ago). The one drawback to it is that the mag sticks out quite far. A 5 rounders fit better, but they limit your fun time. That is one area of the Ruger that interests me. It uses 10/22 mags.

+1 for the Savage MKii fv heavy barrel.... Very accurate and completely reliable, no issues with either the 5 or 10 rnd mags, I just ordered the Boyds stock, the plastic oem just feels too cheep.

I have a Savage MKII BTVS. I have no complaints about the accutrigger, it feels pretty good after shooting my remington 597! I have the 5-rnd mag it came with and two 10-rnd mags never had a problem with any of them. I haven't been able to beat the 1/2" @ 50 yard challenge with it yet despite having shot several nice sub 0.4'' groups with it. Recently bedded it and bought a torque wrench for the action screws (VERY important! Experiment with torque values and when you find where it shoots best WRITE IT DOWN and put the paper in the gun safe). It was shooting poorly in the cold so I'm still undecided if I'm truly satisfied with it yet. Once the weather warms up again I'll be back to ammo testing and trying to beat the 1/2'' challenge.

I have a Savage BV and the Ruger in 22 mag.
Both have been flawless.
However, the ruger synthetic stock is way nicer than the synthetic stocked savage.

My RAR doesn't shooter minimags accurately, which is a disappointment. The rifle, and magazines, the RAR is a better designed rifle to me.

Own both, better magazine with the Ruger including inserting and retaining the magazine. Better trigger with the Savage. Accuracy better in the Savage, i think because of the trigger. All in my own opinion and experience.
