Thanks Kevan bit of a lip stick on a pig scenario but it solved a problem anyway. This rifle is a last years model compact and I read somewhere they've upgraded the for stock area design for a little more strength but I'm not certain of that.
Just awaiting delivery of an American in .223. It was an educated impulse buy. I'm liking the direction of this thread though!
just started contemplating a compact in .223. I notice the prices starting to creep up on them. Reminds me of the tikka t3 starting out reasonably priced and climbing as they caught on. To me, the American is a $450 dollar gun in matte finish and $550-575 stainless. I see the matte selling at $530-550 and stainless approaching $700. I like these rifles but they are not worth those prices.
Here is mine as of tonight:

No doubt the dollar is at play as well but, some of the competition is staying closer to their original price point. Actually, you can routinely find vanguard s2's on sale for less and the American is not in the same league.maybe our dollar value is the reason of the price increase also.
I have one in 223 that has had two boxes through it. Would sell you mine! Great rifle but I'm looking to get one in 243!
I used low expansion foam for window and door installs. Worked great.Wish I had known. Arrived already. Looks okay. Real econo-gun. No $ wasted on polishing at all and first thing is to fill the butt end of the stock with silicone to balance it a bit better. We'll see how it goes.
In a weak moment last week I bought a Ruger American Ranch in .223 from my local Canadian Tire, its the one with the 16" barrel. Its gonna be my coyote/truck gun. I Put a Bushnell AR/223 4.5-18 X 40 mm scope on it. I was a little concerned when my groups while sighting in with Rem UMC 55 gr and Fed Fusion 62 gr where in the 2" range. Then for ####s and giggles I tried some Win 45gr JHP I had on hand, I wasn't expecting much as this rifle has a 1/8 twist and thought it might be too fast for the little 45gr pills but I was happily surprised when I got groups in the 3/4" range at 100 yards. Next set of days off I'm gonna start working up some handloads. Very happy with this little gun so far. Only issue was there was a little bit of contact between the stock and barrel at the front of the stock but this was easily and quickly remedied with some minor sanding with a dremel.
