Ruger and ammo testing.

I agree the Club has potential I was also hoping for the Eley Force would do good as some people have had good results.

I hope to find something. That Federal was good minus it wasn't on paper for the first few -_- It was impacting much higher (assuming due to the faster velocity) So I plan to pickup some more in the next week or two.

I like testing at 50 cause it makes for easier time reading the hits (for me at least) and only use 25 to get sighted in. From now on I think I will only shoot to 100 for groups.

I want to try more SK and some aguila stuff next.

Cheers,
B

Actually it is slower velocity the barrel has more time to rise due to recoil. (learned this with a 44 mag and some hyper fast rounds) A good spotting scope will save you a lot of time running down range ..plus you can use it hunting.:)

Looks like I get to bring this thread back.

So I sold the original rifle a year or so back to get a bolt action Rimfire for long range fun. Which has been a fantastic Tikka T1X, but I’ve always regretted selling this rifle as it was the most fun I have ever had with a Rimfire Rifle. Thankfully I was lucky enough and caught a sale on them. Managed to pick another one up with a couple spare magazines.

Now the really question is what should I put on this for optic ? I am thinking of getting two, a red dot of some form to try speed steel with and something else for mid to long range fun. Any thoughts and opinions?

Cheers,
B

I do see an arken in the classifieds so that might be the ticket.

Yeah in my last one federal Automatch had some decent accuracy so that will likely be my speed steel ammo seeing as it goes on sale often.

I have a bunch of different eley kicking around and available to me at the local CT so I’ll be trying some of that cause my Tikka loves it. However I have heard good things about CCI SV so I’ll see if I can find some.

if that were my 22 I would tempted to put my Leupold 36 power scope on it or my Weaver T24 scope.

Funny you say that I came across a Leupold 24x today at a retailer and almost bought it just to use as a tester but decided I want to get something a little newer. (That said Leupold is fantastic and I want all their optics.)

Looks about the same as what my 10/22 target lite shoots. Avg 2.6" at 100 with force. I don't think the ruger barrels are the best.

I yet to re try as I've gotten better over the last 2 years.

Yeah I found I wasnt the best testing with the last one. Hopeful I can get some more testing done with a better selection of ammo from low grade to higher grade. Once I decide what Optic to put on it.

Once you try an accurate gun, it's kind of hard to want to shooting anything less. Last time I had that gun out, I was far from impressed at 25.

Yeah my T1X is great for 100m Benchrest style fun. I just wanted something that was more fun and honestly it was the only rifle I ever regretted selling. It got allot more accurate with better ammo I just never took photos. I remember trying some federal automatch someone else had and was quite surprised at it so I may grab a box for plinking. I want to run this at a speed steel match once I get a red dot so that will be fun and tight groups aren't the goal.

Yeah mine I'm considering slapping a RDS on it for steel plinking. I found with my 10/22, I had to use the pinch trigger method. Thumb on the back of the trigger guard and use my trigger finger to have it shoot a bit more accurate.

But it's a fun gun to plinking with. If you're not caring about tight groups.

Just saw this bump, so was reding the op and had a question about the custom shop rifle and it's barrel
which I see is moot now )
Which model is the new 10/22? w/BX trigger? General impressions

Its the exact same rifle. I regretted selling the original and picked one up on sale the other day. The new one is competition 10/22 LH out of Rugers Custom Shop. I havent found another semi auto left hand that I enjoy anywhere close to this one. While the price tag sucks I don't plan to ever let it go or make the same mistake of selling it.

What do you want to know about the barrel ?

Mounted up a 2-12x42 Athlon Scope that I have. (Currently listed for sale.) An might try to get the rifle out this weekend and see if I will keep the scope for it or sell it. Not allot of mag for long range stuff but for 50 and under it should do just fine. Could also use some lower rings for this setup but again its what I had around.

Wondering if the custom shop version has the same barrel as other models on the retail market, or a special barrel/chamber

My understanding is it’s a different barrel. I know the competition and custom shop guns have an extra bolt in the receiver and it helps free float them. I think the target might be similar but looking online it doesn’t look the same from what I can read.

It’s also said they have a different chamber but says it’s proprietary and doesn’t give a chamber spec.

I don’t have a Comparision as I don’t shoot the regular ones due to this being the only left handed option.

I'm just exploring semis, so learning

The Cabelas desc for the higher priced 'Sporter' reads 'dual screw dovetail' but no other mention of quality or higher standard leaning toward accuracy

My understanding is that they do a dual screw mount because the sporter doesn’t have a barrel band and this helps with free floating which promotes better accuracy. However both screws are on the bottom of the barrel/receiver where as the competition has 3 screws. Two underneath and one on top.

The barrels are also different in length, and diameter so they are going to act different. All depends what you’re chasing with the semi. I hope to get it to the range so I should be able to show some accuracy signs with it soon.

I'm curious what that looks like. Dual screw, you mean like the action has 2 screws, vs the single traditional 1022 action screw.

Or are you talking about the v block screws that hold the barrel? As some has a setscrew on the v block to help with barrel droop.

I’m thinking it’s the V block but I don’t have a sporter or classic kicking around to check. Only because the ad mentioned at cabelas is talking about dovetail and the barrel.

However looking on Rutgers website it says this “Cold hammer-forged barrel is locked into the receiver by a unique, two-screw, V-block system.”

The competition actions do have 2 action screws instead of the standard 1 a that I can show if wanted.
